I have been working at Steelcase full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

decent benefits (at some of the plants)
    interesting work spaces
    heated buildings

    Cons

Lack of process and rule enforcement, lack of diversity in each plant, extremely long hours with poor pay

    Advice to Management

get you act together, the mid management is full of bias and corruption. I have lost all passion, love and commitment for this company, and so have my coworkers

I have been working at Steelcase full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Generally the people here are smart, respectful and hard-working. The company tries hard to keep interviews as objective and fair as possible.

    Cons

New employees are not embraced with open arms. The ratio of men to women is embarrassingly low, especially on technology teams.

    Advice to Management

Don't hesitate to make clear decisions and stick up for what you believe in that support your staff. Some leaders have disproportional power or control and this leads to dysfunctional teams below them.

I worked at Steelcase (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The Products that Steelcase has are fantastic and the best in the industry. They have a Great training program and you have the ability to be promoted.

    Cons

They have had a rather large turnover in the entire company but especially with their management and directors that are remote employees - they also cover very large territories.

    Advice to Management

Please continue to listen to the employees and see what their thoughts are. The company has had large amout of people stay with the company for many years and they too could offer a lot in mentoring.

I worked at Steelcase full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits are decent, considering this day and age. Also, the offices are generally top-notch - which one would assume since it is an office furniture company

    Cons

In order to succeed in this company, in the finance department, you need to be a man. If not - forget about it.

    Advice to Management

Many advice to management would be to start paying attention to women in the workplace as actual workers, not just stupid people.

I have been working at Steelcase full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

As of right now it's just the hours but not the same in every area

    Cons

Worst pay ever. They favor the steel employees. The most common problem here is two people will be doing the same job but one is making 3 dollars more an hour just because he came from steel. A lot of the work is relied on the lesser paid employees. There is ALOT of (management, engineers) constantly walking around coming up with stupid ideas because their told hey think of something new for this area. Then their gone. Salary is getting raises yearly, the workers haven't received a raise in over ten years. The late policy now is a joke. You could literally lose your job from being a total of 6 seconds late

    Advice to Management

Pull your head out of your butts, lose a lot of useless overhead, quit supplying zone leader with the Internet, 20 plus bucks an hour to sit there and read the news and go to sites all day is a joke. The hr department is useless now. They fight against you the majority of the time when they should be neutral

I worked at Steelcase full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good overall benifits.
Advancement opertunities are available if you are in the corporate office.
Corperate offices and positions are well paid and have great benifits.
Relocation available when plants are closed.

    Cons

Plant closures and layoffs are a continuous possibility. Very poor management of local plants.
No Advancement opertunities in local plants. All management positions are filled from corporate or outside.

    Advice to Management

Provide local management that will work together with production workers and each other. Frequent conflicts between local management causes confusion for workers.

I have been working at Steelcase full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people around the country, decent support system, surprisingly interesting industry

    Cons

New hiring profile is now in place which is very different than when I started, so a different type of sales team is being hired. New organizational structure which doesn't make sense. Takes a long time to get anything done. No one is held accountable, no one takes full responsibility. Time is spent filling out reports for upper management, not selling.

    Advice to Management

Get more involved with your teams. Quit making more spreadsheets and mentor your teams.
