I have been working at Steelcase (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities to advance within the company. They also support employee development to help you succeed at your chosen path

    Cons

Re-location is often requied to take full advantage of growth opportunities. Sometimes opportunities are not presented by management and you need to be aggressive about following your path.

I have been working at Steelcase full-time

    Pros

    Culture
    Management style
    Good workplace
The culture is very flexible and looks at it for getting the work done not on how many hours you are there in most departments

    Cons

It is really a great place to work. Not really any complaints. The culture is good and the flexibility if you have a family is awesome

    Advice to Management

I would continue to communicate and push decision making down and I think that will continue to improve the culture for the future

    Pros

Awesome job, a lot of flexibility and room to grow.

    Cons

Working weekends. They give you enough notice to plan your life. Just working weekends can be tough.

    Advice to Management

Just being available to listen to the Zone leaders more.

I worked at Steelcase full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice looking facilities, employees can purchase scratch, dent furniture cheap.

    Cons

There is a great class divide that is widening exponentially. HQ office people offered bus rides to local outlet mall while plant employees both office and production not provided the same. Free coffee in HQ but not outlying plants. Sad state.

    Advice to Management

Lay yourselves off. Annual revenue today is same as 20 years ago, which says a lot.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, great benefits, modern and collaborative work spaces that make working fun. Many people that I know have left the company and come back or been with the company for 15+ years.

    Cons

Even though it is a global company, many things feel US-centric.

I worked at Steelcase full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exceptionally talented and intelligent employees, beautiful facilities, family culture and core values, many training / learning opportunities, profit-sharing bonus and 401(k) deposits, salary-exempt vacation after five years (25 days), collaborating teams willing to help each other, large global industry leader with many long time (10 - 40 years) employees.

    Cons

Seasonal (spring through fall) long hours for production, most middle management and hourly employees must start as temps, closing profitable U. S. A. production facilities and moving off-shore.

I have been working at Steelcase full-time

    Pros

Thoughtful people, the whole company seems to know so much about work and how it's changing, future-oriented in their ambitions, very intelligent. The company likes to retain people, will invest in your development.

    Cons

While there's a lot of insight, the company seems slow to respond to growth opportunities, is somewhat risk averse and middle of the road in how it actually behaves.

    Advice to Management

Put your money where your mouth is and place some big bets. Advance younger people up the chain sooner.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Steelcase full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company believes in growth through exploration and learning. I've seen very few companies as willing as Steelcase to experiment with something new and likely to fail, yet acknowledge the learning and understanding that was gained.

    Cons

This is the opposite of the positive. Specifically, on the operations side, the company is hyper conservative and risk averse. There are drastically different cultures within the company (operations vs product development/sales).

    Advice to Management

It is demoralizing to see the brand/cultural identity promoted to outsiders and realize how disengenuous it is (at least within operations).

I have been working at Steelcase full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Access to leadership, resources and career development

    Cons

Most opportunities are in Grand Rapids, Portland or in Munich for tech-based roles. The Integrated Technology Channel is exciting, but not as developed as other verticals within the organization.
