I have been working at Steelcase full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

We have a great work environment - we get to use the latest technology and sit in the nicest chairs (we make them after all!) Starts with 3 weeks of vacation, moves to 5 after 5 years of service. 3 weeks of bonding leave for new mothers or fathers (in addition to short-term disability for new mothers)

    Cons

You likely won't make as much here as you would at some of the medical businesses in the west Michigan area, but the culture is more laid back here.

I worked at Steelcase (Less than a year)

    Pros

Can't say enough about how incredible this company is. Very innovative and modern workplace. Seems like a lot of room for growth once you get your foot in the door and meet the right people. Friendly culture where everyone is willing to lend a hand and help you grow. Higher than average pay, this company treats their employees extremely well. It is no surprise why the turnover here is so dang low and there are many employees who have been with the company 10, 15, 20 plus years.

    Cons

The only down side I can think of is it is difficult to get your foot in the door, really not a lot to complain about with this company.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing, the VP of my department was very involved with everyone. Even with myself just an intern. You are a fool to pass up a job offer here.

I have been working at Steelcase full-time

    Pros

Beautiful office environment. I'm salaried and can come and go as I please (within reason). nice perks at headquarters - a gym, Starbucks, Walkstations throughout, a place to nap, various wellness classes, excellent cafe. Took me over 10 years to get to a decent pay range.

    Cons

I'm buried within the middle workers and don't know how to get ahead. relationships seem to matter much more than actual work product. Favorites get the best jobs. I hear the family medical coverage isn't very good.

    Advice to Management

Increase your diversity; hire outwardly disabled people. Don't waste money.

I worked at Steelcase full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and work-life balance; beautiful workspaces; global business; smart and intellectual people all over the place; a culture of empowerment vs micro management

    Cons

LOTS OF TALK and marketing spiels about the culture instead of action to back it up; Little room to move up or get quality development experiences on a systematic basis; a culture that values "getting along" and "not rocking the boat" over results and accountability; stodgy, conservative, white male dominated; not enough "outside thinking" brought in to really shake things up

    Advice to Management

Quit talking. Start doing. Quit talking about diversity.
Actually hire brown people and women in leadership. Stop rewarding people who talk a good game and get people in place that can deliver. Hold people accountable for their performance. This might actually mean having difficult conversations and letting people go at some point. This will create more room for diversity and the breath of fresh air that you need!

I worked at Steelcase (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The Products that Steelcase has are fantastic and the best in the industry. They have a Great training program and you have the ability to be promoted.

    Cons

They have had a rather large turnover in the entire company but especially with their management and directors that are remote employees - they also cover very large territories.

    Advice to Management

Please continue to listen to the employees and see what their thoughts are. The company has had large amout of people stay with the company for many years and they too could offer a lot in mentoring.
