I worked at Stein Mart full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

A lot of growth potential if you are a very hard worker

    Cons

You must make the company your life. They frown on you having obligations out side of work like children or a significant other.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees the way you want to be treated. If you don't work on weekends or at night, do not expect them to work every weekend and night.

I worked at Stein Mart full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Customer only, nothing in company

    Cons

    Inevitable closing with $1.00 stock-value

    Advice to Management

Lying about associates to fire them because you want to reduce payroll and pay no unemployment is immoral!

I have been working at Stein Mart full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Respectable Salary Benefits Store Hours Great Merchandise- makes merchandising fun Most supervisors are supportive and respectful

    Cons

No comp time for extended work hours Turnover of supervisors Company growth is reducing ability to make decisions as a smart business manager Increased goals when striving to achieve current goals Annual increases very minimum and payroll continues to be reduced while expectations increase exponentially

    Advice to Management

All multi-store supervisors and corporate employees should work a week in a store Reward hourly associates for their hard work with reasonable annual increases based on performance Add ASM bonus program to improve ASM quality Separate vacation, sick and holiday pay from store payroll budgets Allocate payroll for unplanned work and capital/remodel projects

I worked at Stein Mart full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The merchandise is beautiful but is purchased for only one demographic. The employee discount is nice and employee of the month is also a nice perk.

    Cons

The staff is so terribly over worked and it is so difficult to maintain the standards of the store. The employees are really suffering from exhaustion and bitterness. They are pushed every day to do the work of 3 or 4 people and the raises if any are so minuscule they are insulting. The training is inconsistent and there really is no time to complete it.

    Advice to Management

Please re-work the budget. Give the stores control of their payroll again. you cant protect assets with a staff of 5 people. You can't vacuum the store with 4 people. The company is Top Heavy and you need to give it back to Mike Ray. He is the only one who knows how to make things work. Retail is instinct as well as numbers.

I have been working at Stein Mart full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

This is a company that promotes from within.

    Cons

When I first started with this company it was family oriented. Now, as with most retail chains it's all about the bottom line. Corporate directive, LP, DDO's and HR never seem to be on the same page.
