I worked at Stein Mart part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Discount and being able to help people make decisions about their purchases.

    Cons

You have to work hard with little pay. Management is always on you to GET CREDIT CARDS! That is more important to them than Customer Service!

    Advice to Management

Do not show so much partiality and give the employees that deserve it appreciation!

    Pros

We got paid weekly which is nice

    Cons

Terrible management, your schedule is based on how many credit cards you get, manager drinks on the job and other employees do to

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Stein Mart full-time

    Pros

You meet a lot of different people, and this in a way helps you improve communication skills to some level

    Cons

No real pay raise for what you do(it happens but you won't notice). Pushing Credit cards and actually getting customers to apply can grant you a 1-3 dollar spif depending on the day.

I worked at Stein Mart part-time

    Pros

Flexible hours Good for high school and college students for tuition money and work experience Employee discount Employees are treated with respect and care Benefits that come after becoming a full-time employee Very easy to learn the job but depends on individual how they learn

    Cons

Pay Credit cards, credit cards, credit cards! Even banks don't push this much. Retail software is behind and slow Not much room for growth within company Culture Job training needs improvement Job gets very redundant quickly and increase in pay is little to non-existent

    Advice to Management

Bring back security guards, make setting for sale organized and less complicated, make coupons less of a headache! Try to see what will make the employees life easier. Please keep realistic expectations and hire more staff.

I worked at Stein Mart full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    co-workers/ hours are ok /discount

    Cons

If you read other reviews sometimes the only pro is a discount. That is a clue to the company. They push credit card so hard there are people who hate going on the register. It's a daily butt kicking from corporate if you fail to meet goal. ALL upper management personnel are clueless as to how much work they cause with there stupid display merchandising and even dumber pricing plan. My manager was an idiot and upper management when informed ignored our comments and allowed the manager to retaliate against the complainers.

    Advice to Management

Get off the credit cards push. Streamline your pricing and merchandising policies. Listen to your employee when they tell you about their manager

I worked at Stein Mart full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Weekly paycheck and a small discount.

    Cons

The focus too much on credit cards if you don’t meet goal you get blamed for not making sure they don’t care about sales they only care about credit. Everything is so outdated, management is not the best.

    Advice to Management

    Going to retire

    I worked at Stein Mart

    Pros

    Opportunity to grow Easy job

    Cons

They are soley orientated on credit card sales even if it is impossible to get people into signing up High turnover rate for managers and employees

    Advice to Management

To get rid or cut back on credit card requirements to cashiers because most customers do not want credit cards anymore especially, in a smaller town.

I worked at Stein Mart full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great staff & work environment. Always was a good team effort with big sales goals. They did offer insurance & sick days.

    Cons

Trying to get credit cards applications. It would be very difficult to get people to sign up especially on very slow days.

    Advice to Management

Would be better for management to encourage the staff to get credit card sign ups with rewards or better goals.

I have been working at Stein Mart part-time for more than a year

    Pros

discount, discount, discount, discount and discount. (Had to list 5 pros)

    Cons

Very unfair management. Has favorites, no managerial skills. The company as a whole only cares about how many credit cards you sell, not the quality of customer service. No promoting within company. Just a cruddy retail job. Do not recommend working in the Madison, WI store. Upper management does not care. Store is barely keeping open, so no-one cares.

    Advice to Management

Get some manager skills. Do not play favorites and listen to associates concerns not just what you say.
