I have been working at Stein Mart full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

One of the best products to offer.

    Cons

Horrible place to work. Huge turnaround in employees. They expect 1-person to the job of 3. Tight on payroll. Pay raises are a joke and advancement is impossible. If your employer is insecure, they will stand in your way of advancing. Everyone is stressed out because, they focus on credit card apps. and coupons. Too many confrontations and way too stressful.

I worked at Stein Mart part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Employee discount is generous. Co workers are hard working.

    Cons

Store managers usually have no idea how t manage staff. Many manage by intimidation & threats. Pay is low & work is physically demanding. Schedule changes weekly making it difficult to make personal plans. No benefits for part timers. Technology is very outdated making cashier's job especially problematic. Management is more concerned with signing customers up for credit cards than anything else.

I have been working at Stein Mart full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The discount, when combined with sales

    Cons

Workload is inhumane, you can never finish and more is expected in less time. You can't plan your life because schedules go up 1-2 days before the next week and you can't depend on requests off being granted because mgmt likes to play games. All they care about is employees signing up credit cards. Mgr talks down to everyone like they're an idiot and will lie to your face to make herself look better and only acts nice when her boss is visiting. The annoying announcements that are contantly made over the loudspeaker will drive you insane.

I worked at Stein Mart part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Easy first job. Very flexible schedule.

    Cons

Absolutely no room for growth unless your full time (which still guarantees nothing) and cashiers worth is based on credit card quotas and not the other task they do or how good their customer service skills are.

I have been working at Stein Mart full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Clean work environment. Employees are great. Store hours are fair.

    Cons

The company refuses to adapt any new programs and business models. Stein Mart has been running the same business model for over 20 years. Store Management has no Human Resource training and neglects to train the Merchandise Managers and employees. Store Managers take no initiative to be aggressive toward store financial goals. The company blames any revenue or merchandise issues on the Merchandise Managers. Store Managers never take responsibility for revenue decreases. Customer service is never mentioned in morning meetings....only credit cards goals.

I have been working at Stein Mart full-time

    Pros

Good pay with overtime hours. Staying busy makes time seem to go by faster.

    Cons

Corporate has too much control over store volume issues that management should handle in store (i.e.Hiring/termination of employees & disciplinary action) The company needs to target a younger customer base and they could get away from the need for credit cards. Incintive program for signing up credit could be better.
