The rates on our jumbo products usually lags the larger banks.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Sterling Bancorp full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

growing company, good vision for growth

    Cons

middle management in administration and hr not supportive to financial center staff, focus only on business hub centers, in the words of one - "no one gives a crap about the financial centers"

    Advice to Management

senior management must remove their blinders with regard to some of their administrative middle management as their contribution is net zero but they are costing the company some very capable and talented staff.

    Pros

The people are very welcoming and happy.
HR works with you 100% and cares.
Small bank so you get to meet and know a lot of staff including upper up.

    Cons

Unreal goals, management can sometimes be a little aggressive but nothing out of the ordinary. Lack of staff. hire the staff that is needed in the financial centers, we have to ask for help from other financial centers too often.

    Advice to Management

Hire the people that are needed.

I worked at Sterling Bancorp full-time

    Pros

The employees were appreciated by senior management. They held several events during the year for the employees. Every Friday donuts and bagels were provided. It was a nice place to work.

    Cons

There was a constant turnover in one of the lending areas. The individual in charge really didn't care how they treated the individuals that worked for them. Would be nice to you one minute, then would turn on you forgetting that they were nice to you just minutes before. It was like walking on egg shells. Made for an uncomfortable working environment. You know who you are..

    Advice to Management

Continue to grow the institution but perhaps at a bit slower pace. Senior management is strong and I wish them and the bank continued success.
