I have been working at Steven Madden for more than 3 years

    Pros

Discounts, laid back management, fun & young environment, hard work is noticed, up to trend with the latest fashions and opportunity to meet new people and make connections everyday.

    Cons

Being on your feet for 8 - 10 hours a shift, lack of training, too repetitive, rude customers, upper management, & working holidays/weekends, hard work doesn't match up to pay

    Advice to Management

Focus on training your management and don't just hire just to hire. The stores have so much more potential if you actually take the time to look and hire the right people.

I worked at Steven Madden full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Discount, dress code, free shoe twice a year

    Cons

Pay, no raises, horrible communication and no room for growth.

    Advice to Management

My district lost some really talented people in 2014. You offer absolutely nothing to keep people there. You want people to bust their butts selling your product but offer no worthy incentives. Guess what, running one contest throughout the company is not a motivator for most. Especially when you're going up against stores in NYC and Miami whom gross significantly more. Give your deserving people raises, stop making...

I worked at Steven Madden full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The atmosphere in the stores is fun and hip. The relationships you develop with your staff will last far beyond the job. The employee discount is competitive with any retailers in the market. There are also kind gestures given at Christmas time for all store employees.

    Cons

What you are sold on in the beginning is later found out to be half truths or full of "technicalities". There is no support from higher management and the corporate office. Which is very strange seeing as how everyone is envoy ex on the smallest in store operational functions from how many paper towels are to be ordered to filling an entry level position. The buying department doesn't listen to store managers in respects...

    Advice to Management

Update the computer systems. Take the time to train employees to ensure mistakes are easier to prevent. Pay enough money so that you are able to attract a staff that cares about the company, the way you want them to.

    Pros

The shoes, when they don't fall apart on you- which they will. Some just quicker than others.

    Cons

hiring incompetent employees, horrendous upper management from store to district level, wayyy over priced items for lack of quality, too many tasks- not enough hours, no raises- EVER, managers- don't even think about a vacation in your first year, NO saturdays off unless you take a vacation day for it, be prepared to be harassed by everyone in he company. This is the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY ON THE PLANET.

    Advice to Management

    Quit while you're still ahead.

Former Employee - Assistant Manager in Chicago, IL

    I worked at Steven Madden

    Pros

Easy commission sales job. Your title as a manager did not define your actual job. You were excepted to be able to dable in a little of everything. Very young company with great access to corporate depending on our home store location.

    Cons

Work life balance was not carefully thought of. Little done to commend achievements and distribute work evenly. Nepotism at it's best.

    Advice to Management

Although the non-defined job descriptions do help to learn a little bit of everything, placing more structure in the role of each level of manager would ensure that work is getting distributed fairly.

    Pros

Small Canadian company that is growing everyday. I was there when they opened their Don Mills location, and it was fun everyday I was there. The people were dedicated, passionate, and happy to be there. It was a pleasure working for them.

    Cons

Since it is a small company their is less parameters and some things much be figured out on the fly. Which makes the job more challenging. But I personally like to be challenged, it keeps you on your toes!
