Current Employee - Assistant Store Manager in Valencia, CA

I have been working at Steven Madden full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Steve Madden is a great corporation to work for. There is a lot of room to grow and develop in your career or as a person. They are interested in their employee's well-being.

    Cons

The one and only con for me is the scheduling. In retail you will have days you work nights past 5pm, and it is mandatory for a full-time employee to work on the weekends. On top of that, you wont have a set schedule as every week the schedules tend to fluctuate.

I have been working at Steven Madden full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Growth opportunities for those who work hard. Laid back environment. Teaches you to become a great salesperson and how to execute great customer service. Multi-faceted job responsibilities.

    Cons

I'm quite optimistic about this brand. There aren't any cons.

    Advice to Management

The product each store receives could use more attentiveness. The company overall needs better people to fill the buyer positions in order to have control over the store's value and what attracts clientele.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Steven Madden full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fun, relaxed environment. Mobility is somewhat possible.

    Cons

Insufficient support from upper management (management outside of the store). Lack of technological advancement.

    Advice to Management

My advice to district management would be to be more available and support in store staff more dependently.

I worked at Steven Madden full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Establised brand which customers seek out, which makes selling easier.

    Cons

Management is very sneaky. Nice to your face, but will gladly stab you in back.

    Advice to Management

Don't ask your employees to dress as sexy as possible when Steve Madden himself visits. Asking them to wear the shortest dress they own with the most cleavage is inappropriate, plus the interaction with him will be awkward enough.

I have been working at Steven Madden for more than 3 years

    Pros

Discounts, laid back management, fun & young environment, hard work is noticed, up to trend with the latest fashions and opportunity to meet new people and make connections everyday.

    Cons

Being on your feet for 8 - 10 hours a shift, lack of training, too repetitive, rude customers, upper management, & working holidays/weekends, hard work doesn't match up to pay

    Advice to Management

Focus on training your management and don't just hire just to hire. The stores have so much more potential if you actually take the time to look and hire the right people.
