I have been working at Steven Madden full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My team The hours aren’t grueling if you work smart you’re out by 6. 6% match on 401K A name everyone recognizes

    Cons

Pay Office Culture Pay Benefits are subpar Forms of lifting employee morale are quarterly 50% “employee appreciation “ sales off of full priced shoes for a two week time period 4 times a year, one company bbq thrown in the headquarters parking lot and a Christmas party held at a bowling alley on a Monday. Subpar annual raise

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more done to celebrate the hard work the employees do for this “billion dollar company” besides monthly donuts for birthdays and quarterly employee appreciation sales, the best way to achieve that is to have employees weigh in on how they believe they should be appreciated. Furthermore upward growth should be a requirement employees careers should not remain stagnant until said employee speaks up... on their behalf. It is part of a managers responsibility to notice when people are worthy of more challenging work, raises, and promotions. Far too often are people given more work without the salary increase that SHOULD come with it, along with the necessary title change. Upper Management also seems to never have a problem with refilling a role after an employee leaves the company, rather they just let the short staffed team fend for themselves and make due and thus everyone’s workload increases but no ones salary does. Despite there being salaries that were once accounted for no longer being dispensed. The only way to get ahead is to know the right people, people get hired and have ZERO experience or understanding of what their role or category that they work in requires. All in all this place is cheap and brimming with nepotism. Run for the hills. I know I plan on it.

I worked at Steven Madden full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Relaxed dress code, some people even show up in leggings and cropped tops or sweatpants. Free lunch every friday (rotating between sandwiches or pizza), but keep in mind the tradition started because management did not want you to leave the office for lunch, so there is that general feeling. Flexible work hours, can arrive at 9:30 or 9am as long as you do your hours.

    Cons

Management only cares about themselves, and is only concerned with whatever benefits them. 10 vacation days to start, and doesn't get bumped up until your 6th year of service (then you get 21 days). But you cannot take more than 8 consecutive days for vacation (whats the point of having so many days then?). Some people who have been working there for a long time (7+ years) get away with almost everything. Some... managers are bullies, and will throw you under the bus. There is no corporate card so you are expected to pay for samples, plane tickets and hotels with your own card. Steve Madden is also not the quickest to reimburse, which can be problematic if you don't have extra money to spare in your bank account.

    Advice to Management

Please run more management leadership classes and require managers to attend. It will help a lot with bullying and harassment in the workplace. It would also be helpful to run periodic surveys, and it would be even more helpful if there was a way to review/rate managers so that they cannot see it to avoid unfair treatment. Some managers push to have their direct reports climb higher while other managers do not let... them do anything, and are in fact inhibiting them to grow. luck of the draw.

I worked at Steven Madden part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Created customer relationships. Got to take control of projects on your own. Nice co-workers. Nice discount.

    Cons

Management is terrible. WAY TOO MUCH unethical behavior and belittlement. The stock rooms are always a mess.. no matter what location. Hours vary based on when they specifically want you working.

    Advice to Management

Be respectful. Dont give attitude when someone asks for days off. Do not leave someone hanging. Be helpful and ETHICAL.

I have been working at Steven Madden full-time

    Pros

The pay is ok. Not the best. Other places are paying better for the same job.

    Cons

With the exception of some of the newer upper management, upper management is aware of many of the flaws and does not take appropriate steps to fix them. It is an extremely inefficient place. The culture is extremely petty and often feels like being back in high school. Not enough focus on staying modern throughout the company. There is a high focus on cutting cost and not enough investment in the company. Retention... of great employees is non existent. I see this company falling behind other fashion companies in many ways. Nothing will change while things stay the status quo.

    Advice to Management

Stop the politics and learn. Retain good employees and invest in the organization further than what is being done. Listen to the experts and make changes soon.

I worked at Steven Madden part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Amazing group of hard working young women 50% discount Amazing company to work for if you get a strong store to work in with solid management

    Cons

Location went through a lot of unnecessary change right before holiday with upper management, which in turn made it hard for some to get the proper training. Store Managers relying way to much on there Assistant Managers to clean there mess up when they drop the ball. SM did the bare minimum but got all of the praise. SM would talk about coworkers to other store managers in the district that was personal... information about there employees lives THE STOCK ROOM WAS ALWAYS A HOT MESS. the only time the SM would want to do something about it would be if we had a scheduled visit. Always either under staffed at peek hours our over staffed on slow days Upper management would promise things they knew they couldn’t see through to the associates Associates would get patronized for trying to step up to the plate when management wouldn’t Favoritism

    Advice to Management

Allow your associates to rise up to the challenge not just when it benefits you but in general. Quit gossiping like 8th grade girls at lunch Store managers needs to treat the ASM and other supervisors this respect. Dropping the ball and not caring because you know someone else will take care Of it is extremely problematic
