I have been working at Stevenson University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Progressive organization that is very student centered. The Environmental Science program is excellent. Very good that the Rosewood property was obtained.

    Cons

There's a need for more green space. Acquisition of the Rosewood property will help in the green space issue. Owings Mills campus looks too much like a business park and not a college.

    Advice to Management

Communication from senior management needs to be more transparent. With the induction of a new president there should be more communication to address widespread anxiety about enrollment/financial concerns.

I have been working at Stevenson University full-time

    Pros

Just the same pros as any other higher ed institution...extra days of leave around the holidays.

    Cons

Wage freeze for 2016 and 2017. Budget cuts and further cuts over the past 3 years. Enrollment continually decreasing. Way behind on technology.

    Advice to Management

Many seasoned employees are not advancing with the times and are complacent with doing things the 'old way'. This has hindered productivity and efficiency.

I have been working at Stevenson University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stevenson's culture is one of support, collaboration, and resiliency.

    Cons

Unfortunately, since the University is tuition based, budgets can be tighter at times and stress can get higher if numbers aren't up to snuff.

    Advice to Management

    Don't overlook the "smaller guys".

I have been working at Stevenson University full-time

    Pros

The University is fairly small, so it's easy to work with other departments. Benefits are decent.

    Cons

Administrative & management issues throughout - hopefully this changes with the new President. Many managers need training on how to set a better example for their department and manage employees better.

    Advice to Management

On-going training for anyone in a supervisory role.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Stevenson University part-time

    Pros

The school is expanding, good sense of community, recent increase in pay per credit-hour for adjunct faculty and instructors.

    Cons

Still a small school without the student draw of places like Towson or UMD. Otherwise I have not encountered any problems.

    Advice to Management

Keep working to develop Stevenson's role in the area so that there is more of a reason for high-level students to enroll.

I worked at Stevenson University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I was able to make my schedule exactly how I wanted it. There are measures in place to ensure that students who neglect their appointments are dealt with.

    Cons

You don't get paid if a student cancels his/her tutoring appointment. They seem to cycle new management in constantly because they've been so bad.

    Advice to Management

Find management that will relate well to the students. Mandatory meetings are fine as long as legitimate topics are discussed; otherwise, we feel that our time is wasted.
