I worked at Stifel Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people in my department were great to work with as well as surrounding departments. People generally wanted to help the company succeed

    Cons

Lack of leadership, was way too political. Very few chances for advancement which seemed to rely more on who you know rather than your talent.

    Advice to Management

Have a defined direction and stick to it. Often I felt as though the company had ADD and projects were dropped or picked up with no reason

    Pros

Stable, you get work there forever because they don't update their technologies. Nobody is found on the floor after 4:30pm because everyone has left. Back office IT is a cost to them, don't expect any big bonus or praise.

    Cons

Old dinosaur technologies, ugly ASP.NET Web forms and Classic ASP are all over the place. IT management does NOT know about software development at all. Their compensation is a joke, you can be as good as a Google engineer but they will pay you like an ITT Tech graduate (30K or less). No career advancement because of its flat structure.
They spend a lot to on-premise data centers to keep their hardward/system folks around.

    Advice to Management

It's the 21st century, learn software and understand how it can transform your business.

I worked at Stifel Financial (More than a year)

    Pros

Talented IT staff and fairly decent work/life balance

    Cons

    - executive office is extremely resistant to change and clearly want to work with people who "play the game" rather than do the job; overall lack of vision for the future, adherent to "old model" values and culture

    - Forced to trade and invest with stifel once employed (which they don't tell you until you've already signed on). Their trade operations are cantankerous and antiquated, not to mention the steep execution fees for virtually no value added

    - the CEO is notoriously cheap, unpersonable and profits off employees whenever possible (parking fees, trade accounts, etc); benefits are quite a joke, just like the trade operations

    Advice to Management

Get a few IT minds on the board instead of business relics who still have little to no idea how data flows and software is developed.

I have been working at Stifel Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy to get a job. Only an associates degree is necessary for hire. Was fun to work with the various branches.

    Cons

In operations, you start at 30k salary. Critical atmosphere--headphones were banned while data entering. Office is loud and voices carry.

    Advice to Management

Operations staff micromanages and critical about the darndest things. Communcation is poor.

I worked at Stifel Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

ok work/life balance, more chilled out than most other ibanks on the street. fellow analysts are mostly good people, nice office space

    Cons

bonus level way below street, nickle-and-dimes employees on expenses, poor upward mobility, exit ops are limited unless you're in a group with good dealflow

I worked at Stifel Financial full-time

    Pros

Not too big, not too small. IT department is responsive. Great bonuses. Good work hours and conditions. The department I was in had a great open door environment. You were free to talk to coworkers and had adequate help when needed. Very relaxed. Office was physically nice.

    Cons

The department was bloated. They would hire people even though many of the incumbents didn't have enough work to do. Direct supervisor wouldn't give additional responsibilities despite being asked for them many times. He was a micro manager and would email me request to do something that would take less than a minute to do because he had already done 99% of the work already. The department needed to be restructured.

    Pros

Don't know them anymore. Not the same company they used to be since they started acquiring all these companies and started changing.

    Cons

worked there over 10 years. Was laid off - and told its not my performance. Then lay off people who have a poor performance.

    Advice to Management

Learn to keep the people that got you there and stop buying so many companies which then forces you to let people gol
