    Pros

Great company! Management trusted our branch to operate our business independently. Received a holiday bonus each year which was essentially an extra paycheck.

    Cons

Technology was a little lagging compared to other firms. 401k match was not great. Not a lot of brand name recognition.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing! This is a great company. Invest more in technology to enhance the client experience.

    Pros

Good people. MDs are accessible and have less ego then peers at other banks

    Cons

Typical long work hours, but cant complain. Senior management has made very poor acquisitions to spur growth

    Advice to Management

    Stop making low quality acquisitions

    Pros

Associates are great, a lot of exposure to several different business areas.

Get to travel the country to several branch offices.

    Cons

Taking phone calls to unlock passwords of 90 year old customers.

Monotonous work at times if you don't get on the road and travel

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Potential to bring experience from working from the BIG BOY Investment banks was compelling - the thought of moving to a low cost area was compelling but the inability to execute on anything but mediocrity became the reality.

    Cons

Programs are impossible to achieve except acquiring other banks brut force
Hero worship is the way the place works, so doors will be closed on you for being an agent of change
The place is built on High School relationships, not college!
Beware if you not from the St Louis area
This applies to the ERM, IT areas only

    Advice to Management

Get a structure , having one head who acts as CTO, CIO, CDO, CISO.... does not work

I have been working at Stifel Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working out in California, the Public Finance group is larger than any other in the state. There are significant opportunities to grow and attain responsibility over numerous deals. It's fast paced and relatively high intensity, but also very rewarding.

    Cons

Support bankers are often overworked due to poor staffing. Pay doesn't start out competitive enough. Steep learning curve with less instruction than may be needed. There have been many acquisitions of other firms by Stifel that do not feel integrated, systems are disjointed and oftentimes confusing.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on your employees. Hire more regional HR staff to handle the day to day office management. It should feel like one big team, not individual teams of 2 or 3.

    "Investment Banking Analyst"

Current Employee - Analyst in New York, NY
Current Employee - Analyst in New York, NY

I have been working at Stifel Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good exposure to all aspects of transactions. Experience is truly what you make of it; if you try to get your hands dirty, you can, and you have the ability to sculpt a reputation for yourself even at a very junior level. Those who stand out are treated right come bonus time.

    Cons

Exit opportunities can be limited - the firm tends to keep its best talent in-house and has not done much to extend opportunities outward. The analyst/associate promotion cycle (June vs. January) means that you can be in a tough position to make a decision when the time comes.
