  4. "Managers are not managers- they are salesman!!"

I worked at Stoneacre Motor Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good CEO and training, good selection of cars

    Cons

Management are up and down, felt like being at school sometimes. Told when you can and cannot have dinner. Leads are not given out fairly. The company pride themselves on the process, yet the managers do not follow process (first face and second face). Any trust and repoire built up between you and the customer is completely smashed to bits when the manager stacks the first figures at a rediculous apr, leaving you to try and resuscitate the deal with the customer and negotiate when you are miles away. You are expected to book appointments from the database of customers that have been ripped off on the APR rate and are so upside down with their payments that you are flogging a dead horse 90% of the time. Never had a one to one or a performance review in my time there. Only ever had 1 positive meeting and even then individuals got pulled apart. Morale after the Saturday morning meeting was so low that at least 1 sales person every weekend was left licking their wounds avoiding the sales office. Made to feel guilty about taking days off and holidays, and threatened constantly about having days off taken away. Made to stay late to prospect quite often ( you could go home on time if you really wanted but may as well not come back as you will then not get any leads). Overpriced paint protection and “guarantees” that are then drastically reduced after first figures. If you fail to trial close a customer to “buying the car now” the manager won’t give you figures at all, leaving you to try to make an excuse as to why we can’t tell them what the “weekly” payments will be. So much pressure to get appointments booked in from prospecting yet you get punished if they dont turn up ( customers telling us they will come down just to get us off the phone). Want to progress? You need to be the best salesman- this means that you have to be the managers best friend. Buy them cigarettes and dinner every day, laugh at all their jokes and hang around the sales office acting like a court jester just so you get fed deals instead of stacking on making sure the pitch, photos and price changes are done and up to date. Work-life balance does not exist. 8:30am-7pm through the week (hardly get to finish at 7pm) and every weekend. 1 day off one week and 2 the next... You will get asked to work your days off, or will have to come and do your handover on you days off though. Managers only worry about profit and do not think about customer experience, colleague experience or attrition. No coaching or development and certainly no positive people management. If you do a great deal then the manager will be annoyed that you haven’t done that all month. If you do 10 great deals he will be annoyed that you havent done 11. The glass is always half empty. If you are happy working 70 hour weeks and being ordered around like you are at school chasing 25-30k per year then this is perfect for you. Forget everything you know about the motor trade and follow the process to a tee, and if you are lucky and you get a manager that can be bothered then it will work... thats if they do their bit in the process steps (4 is nearly always missed or half heartedly done).
