I have been working at Stonehill & Taylor Architects full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great interior design aesthetics methodology; strong (interior) design language; Monthly after-hours parties with great food and wines;some senior people with great overall experience. Small firm culture in certain areas. Rather friendlly/ flexible office hours.

    Cons

"Small firm sindrome". Weak management based on principals micromanagement / personal participation rather then procedures and delegation of responsibility; un-organized environment; printers are always out of paper/broken; senior people including "associates" are asked to fully draft in cad projects who is waste of time (and money); people are moved around between projects and tasks rather sudden with no input; dialog...

    Advice to Management

Create steady teams around more senior people; moving at will people around create gaps in the project knowledge and lost of information. Delegating CA to office members who did not design the project in the first place is a no no idea in any other office.

There is a very open flow of communication and ideas between different project teams, which lends towards more comprehensive solutions. The work environment is very communal and casual, but never lacking in professionalism between...

    Cons

While the President and Vice Presidents keep everyone informed of new company directions and projects, they do not consult anyone outside of upper management when allocating crucial staff support or deciding technology/facility directives. As is often the case in this field, Project Managers are not very clear when relinquishing control/direction of the projects to their respective Project Architects - certain opinions...

    Advice to Management

While I understand that it is Paul Taylor's company and he and his Vice Presidents are very experienced and knowledgeable about running a successful architecture firm, they tend to forget that the younger, more hands-on employees are the ones most directly affected by their decisions. If the firm is ever to truly compete with its more "digitally inclined" contemporaries, changes must be made to keep everyone in the loop....
