    Pros

    Great benefits - especially the NYS Pension, excellent health insurance
    Decent staffing ratios

    Cons

    Much lower pay than other local hospitals ($10-20K/yr.)
    The hospital is run very inefficiently. Way too much dead weight at the top.
    Every outside administrator with a history of success in another organization gets crushed by "The Stony Brook Way." Then, nothing changes!

    Advice to Management

    Reevaluate the necessity of every non-bedside position.
    Bring in outside administrative talent and empower them to make improvements.

    It's a great place to work.I enjoyed my job,everybody worked as a team.

    Working the evening shift, 3-11:30.

    Make sure there is enough staffing, especially on weekends and during summer.

    Great benefits after gaining permanent status. The chance to work on leading edge tech is a plus.

    Cons

    Top heavy management and bureaucracy make for a sometimes a negative work environment. Unrealistic expectations abound.

    Modern facility. Gourmet cafeteria, live music in the afternoon, ongoing lectures and training.

    In the middle of Long Island, which means, one has to live on Long Island to work here.

    Patient Safety is important but so are the employees doing the work on all levels.

    Enforce a employee evaluation system that occurs yearly and is tied to salary increase or bonus. Create clear career pathing for people who would like to advance.
