      Pros

Heavy focus on research, easy to form collaborations across disciplines. You can also collaborate with people in Brookhaven national lab. Great location in Long Island. Hospital associated with is a premier teaching institution in Long Island.

      Cons

Bureaucracy of the administration can hinder research, but this is not too much of an issue. Lack of sufficient focus on science to industry.

      Less than fair employer

      Pros

Stony Brook is a diverse environment, and I enjoyed interacting with my colleagues, faculty members, and students.

      Cons

The money graduate students make covers less than what they need to stay alive on Long Island. The fees are high, and basically, you pay 1/10th of your salary back to university for expenses that are either irrelevant or unnecessary

      Overworked and under compensated

      Pros

Excellent and dedicated co-workers who care about students.

      Cons

No room for growth, the only departments hiring during the freeze are ones that can bring in money. Support departments that can't generate revenue are starved and have incredibly low morale. Turnover can be very high because salaries do not support the cost of living on Long Island.
