I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -Paid Time Off
    -Good benefits
    -Unionized
-Many different reward incentives for working well
-Time and a half on Sunday

    Cons

As with most grocery stores, they like to keep you as a bagger or cashier.. It's more of a problem with the company layout than anything else. It's not intentional.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

    Pros

    - Working with older people allows younger adults to be open to the world.
    - The job is union based, so your always covered if the company tries something.
    - Great staff, except management.
    - Easy to get along with others and make friends.

    Cons

    - Hours for breaks aren't well made out
    - If given a 6.50hrs shift, you are only given 1 break as by law any person working more than 6hrs is required two breaks.
    - No way of moving up, if you go full time you will be transferred to another store far from home.
    - Raises only go up 30 cents per year.

    Advice to Management

Learn to care about part timers more as they make up most of the full timers. Most full timers lie around and do nothing and let the part timers do all the work.

I worked at Stop & Shop (More than a year)

    Pros

There is plenty of available overtime work unfortunately most of it is forced with position on the length of service and all is night shift.

    Cons

The work is timed and can be high stress to complete orders around others that may move slower than your ability.

    Advice to Management

reconsider the time to complete orders based on traffic flow and weight of items being selected

I have been working at Stop & Shop full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get some decent benefits from a job of this caliber. Part Timers and Full Timers get 3 Personal Days as, well as x amount of Vacation weeks based on your tenure. Part Timers get 24 hours sick time after a two years, Full Timers get 40 hours of sick time per year. The work schedule can be really flexible for Part Timers and Full Timers are a little less flexible but still decent.

    Cons

They will overwork the living hell out of you. My boss use to regularly advise us to not call out of work, instead come in for an hour or two and wait for someone else to show up and replace you. I once had to work by myself for 8 hours because everyone in the department called out or wouldn't come in. We were a Full Serve gas station at the time and I was in agony by the end of Saturday. The same thing happened on Sunday only that day I got sick and, wound up having to call out for an entire week. When I got back, my boss said something akin to "You saw what happened when you were out sick" which was that only two people worked that entire week, solo for 8-9 hours per day. As if it was my problem at all.

They regularly put more work on you than should be, assigning you tasks that is really there own responsibility. They expected me to call around for help from the other gas stations around us, despite being busy during the Christmas holiday season and again working solo for long hours.

There's a Full Timer over at another gas station that is working 50-75 hours weekly due to the fact that they're so understaffed and, his management team won't hire. Despite the fact that there were several hires requesting to work there or were hired for that department specifically. But, then were taken away and given to him for 2-3 shifts per week at best.

This is the kind of B.S that you will encounter regularly there, there's no professionalism at all. The managers think of certain departments as afterthoughts, as long as the "Main" departments are half arse stocked. Don't worry, even the main departments don't get a full staff either despite their "Importance" over others.

    Advice to Management

They need to hire more people and, look into themselves. To most of the management teams, it's all about the bottom line. No overtime, no extra hours for departments who need them no nothing.

I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits, vacations, sick time, paid holidays,

union - job security and stick up for benefits

    opportunity for growth.

    Cons

It used to be a great company, but they have since focused more on the bottom line than their employees. Cut, cut, cut hours but expect all numbers to be met and everything to be perfect running on bare minimum of hours. invest in your associates or you're not going to have any left!

    Advice to Management

Worry more about your people than your profit or you're not going to have any left!

I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

After 1 year you get 1 week vacation, 3 personal days, & I believe 6 sick days. It just keeps adding the longer you've been there. The promotion rate is high.

    Cons

Working six days a week. They say they're flexible with schedules but depending upon the store manager they give you a hard time. You always working for 2 or 3 people not just your position.

    Advice to Management

    Schedule enough staff!

    Pros

Ahold USA is a successful company that is always pushing forward therefore there are lots of learning opportunities, salary mostly competitive, bonus and incentive stock also good. Most employees are helpful and respectful and love to achieve, taking pride in the work they do.

    Cons

Highly political environment and at times almost cutthroat. Due to its almost traditional hierarchical structure people won't do what's right..more interested in saving their own skin.

    Advice to Management

It's important to create a safe environment for employees across different levels in order to both retain employees and get the most out of them.
