I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The environment is very friendly. The managers are very supportive and helpful.

    Cons

The store I work at, is smaller and there are not a lot of registers always open. Also, due to this fact, we do not have a large product selection.

I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the pros are: easy work, nice front-end manager, vacation, personal and sick days, nice customers for the most part.

    Cons

The cons are: poorly trained managers, assistant managers, and CSDH's, not enough staff, irregular schedule week from week, internal favorites.

    Advice to Management

Pay your staff better wages and provide more help in the store. If the front-end is not busy, cashiers can always do other work. Do not use staff from other departments. Don't expect cashiers to fund raise for your projects.

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You can usually get away with being a drunk stoner with no work ethic. The union will protect even the most blatant of sexual harassers.

    Cons

If you're actually a hardworking person, it's difficult to ever be recognized. You'll just end up picking up everyone else's slack. Rumors are like wildfire and everyone is trapped in a high school mentality. You can make $5 an hour more basically anywhere else. Go to Roche or Trader Joe's.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice, because aside from a few hard workers, a good portion of management is bottom scrapping, entitled morons. Instead of forcing me to work through my lunch to make up for how behind I am after listening to you complain about how little YOU make, maybe take some management classes. Oh, and if someone is being threatened by a coworker and the coworker admits to it, asking them to "hug it out" is a worthless idea. I'm looking at you, McGrath Highway Somerville store.

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, multiple positions, union oriented. Great first job, very easy to pick up, and many people willing to help you succeed

    Cons

Repetitive work, but not strenuous. Managers were changed constantly so it was difficult to form a bond, some managers would have different rules than others.

I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

offer a variety of shifts, union, benefits for part time and full time employees, room for advancement

    Cons

unfair raises for cost of living. the employees that have earned a higher rate for years of service should still get the cost of living raise or the raise difference what the new employees start at.

    Advice to Management

learn your employees and your customers . say "Thank you "(never hear) saying hello is an effort

    Pros

    Cons

Management can be tough to deal with, must work Saturdays, no support from higher management, not always given materials to get job done

    Advice to Management

Don't treat long term employees poorly

I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to meet a variety of people and co-workers are usually decent people because you all bond over hating management.

    Cons

The management is very inconsistent. You will be doing one job, they will tell you to do something for them, and then they'll yell at you because the first thing you were doing isn't done.

    Advice to Management

For the most part, people know how to do their jobs. If something hasn't been done yet, there is usually an easy explanation as to why. Instead of saying they need to do something, ask them if they are currently in the process of doing something and when they are done with that then do what you need them to do.
