    Pros

Stop and Shop offers reasonably stable hourly employment. The hourly positions are union, but ruled by the almighty payroll dollar.

    Cons

Stop and Shop is a heartless company that cares nothing for its employees. There is no equity in positions and/ or opportunities, the turnover rate is astronomical and the abuse doled out by the management is frightening. The company cares nothing about you beyond how much work they can squeeze out of you in your scheduled shift.

    Advice to Management

Leadership is not inherent to power.

    Pros

The older generation of workers were nice and were very welcoming. Not really that mentally challenging. Easy interview and orientation process.

    Cons

Training was basically no-existent. They just threw me into the work with pretty much no explanation as to what to do. I asked for help and all they told me to do was work faster.

I was basically ignored by my supervisor and the other younger co-workers. They only payed attention to me when I was doing something wrong. They never said hi or introduced themselves at all.

The work was extremely labor intensive which no one told me it would be. I knew I would be lifting boxes but what I really had to deal with was just awful. I still have back problems from that.

Overall I hated every minute of it.

    Advice to Management

Get better training for your new workers.

    Pros

Generous tuition reimbursement policy. Good benefits.

    Cons

Weak management in some departments, providing no mentoring, training or feedback. Associates that bullied others not reined in by their supervisors. Bad work habits not addressed and this affected morale of better workers.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of the better help and they will want to stay around.

    Pros

    Good part-time job.
Most associates are very nice to work with.
It's a good first job for those in high school.

    Cons

They don't treat their people good.
They've broken state laws on how to deal with certain associates.
    Poor communication between management.
Violated federal law on wrongful termination of a disabled associate.

    Advice to Management

You need to do a better job on how you treat your associates. More of them should stand up for themselves but fear the retaliation.

    Pros

    Union: added job security
Work schedule: good for taking days off when needed
Direct deposit is an option, as is taking your paycheck in person

    Cons

Union: slackers stay employed, create problems on jobfront
Management: very unprofessional, inexperienced, and hyporitical
Pay: not worth the trouble we go through
Customers: let's face it, people aren't easy to deal with.

There is no teamwork in this store. Managers and other workers will gladly throw you under the bus to get ahead. Heed my warning.

    Advice to Management

When you criticize your workers, look in the mirror. Your highest ranking officials are the ones who mess up the most. Put the blame in the right place.

Pay your employees more; we do the dirty work so you don't have to. A little appreciation never killed anyone.

Have more in depth inspections of employee complaints. You don't see what we see, so try a bit longer and harder before disregarding us.

I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free Cookies, and that's about all i can come up with.

    Cons

    Low Pay....Low Pay.....LOW PAY
Managers and co workers don't speak to you. Once you begin to work there you become invisible, apparently.
Not much training. They just throw you out there and expect you to know how to do everything you weren't taught to do.

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My manager and coworkers were great

    Cons

Horrible, horrible pay. After taxes and union dues it was under $7.00 an hour for HARD work. Raises are .30 a year no matter if you're an excellent worker or a slacker.

    Advice to Management

Merit raises would be great. Some people work very hard and end up getting the same as some 17 year old who is on their phone all day.
