I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time

    Pros

Easy to get hired, able to schedule 3 weeks in advance only, if you have an appointment, but don't mess up!

    Cons

In bottle room forced to lift weights higher than in job description and forced to smash stuck together tubs of crushed glass, a major hazard to a persons eyes and body. In compactors, managers are supposed to attend them when in use and they don't and decieve upper management about it. I've seen OSHA violations with the compactors like operating when they should be locked out, safety cages damaged, people expected to climb in compactors in order to fix them despite being unsafe. Forced to work on hands and knees. Expected to do contractor's jobs and management refusing to call plumbers for days. No toilet paper for several days throughout store. Hounding and harassing workers, the good ones, to do more and more to their limits with no regard to their health or feelings. Management taking things out on employees and power playing middle management bullying singling out and bullying others. Watch out if you want a referral, it won't be good.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to manage and act more professional. Stop abusing good people, a company is only as good as its management. Provide a safer work environment and provide the tools, safety and otherwise, to do the tasks you demand of employees.

    Pros

5% employee discount, very nice and friendly coworkers. Doesn't get too busy often and the job is simple, you can always make extra hours since they are always asking you to stay,

    Cons

The pay rate is simply too low, the breaks are short even when you work more hours you get the same break time (15 mins).

    I worked at Stop & Shop part-time

    Pros

Pay rate and benefits for employees with company for 3+ years. Schedule flexibility. Autonomy with certain jobs. Cross-training options. Meeting nice people; customers as well as employees. Holidays and bad weather provide chance for extra hours. Jobs are not hard to learn.

    Cons

Frequently dealing with rude, ignorant customers. Dealing with certain personality-types of store management and department leads. Grocery retail around the holidays limits time to prepare for and enjoy the holidays.

    Advice to Management

Don't play favorites. Address the issue of slacking and phone use on duty; especially with part-timers. Attn: department leads: Micromanaging does not get the work done any faster or better. Store managers on up: more emphasis on ethics instead of numbers $$$/sales.

    I worked at Stop & Shop part-time

    Pros

Not much really. Time and half on Sunday.

    Cons

Management is pointless. My supervisor would call people in early so he didn't have to do anything or leave.

    Advice to Management

    Start fresh

    Pros

    Friendly environment
    Easy work
    Flexible hours

    Cons

    Not enough hours
    Management is negligent
    Poor organization and communication

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring more employees when there isn't enough hours to give to the ones you already have
minimum is 15 and more than a few have 5-10 and that is only resolved when it's brought up.

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling if you are in school. Nothing hard about the job. Any good employee can learn any department they want very easily. Most buildings it will be easy to pick up hours, or drop your hours on others depending if you want more or less. Helps you learn how to deal with customers in a retail environment.

    Cons

Managers are rotated constantly, your whole system can change overnight. High turnover on employees, you will be constantly training new people. Pay is low. Since it is retail, you will have to deal with crazy customers from that to time.

The work is not too hard

    Cons

    Not enough hours
Pay rate is not high enough for the amount of work
    Management doesn't care enough

    Advice to Management

Someone that's been working for a company for 5 years shouldn't be making the same amount as someone that's been there for a month

I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good benefits
    Flexible schedule
    Great Sunday pay
    Health care
    Education opportunities
    Guaranteed breaks
Lots of annual fundraising and events
    Sick pay

    Cons

    Bad choosing of management
    Bad management toward employees
    Disorganization in many departments
Management making bad decisions from corporate offices
    Employees are not backed

    Advice to Management

Management should learn to back their employees and learn about how they pick and choose who to make full-timers because I’ve seen first head that power can go to their heads.
