I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Somewhat flexible part time hours. Good vaca and time off benefits.

    Cons

No health insurance for part timers unless you average over 30 hours in a year. Over the years I have qualified for that. Unfortunately management has recently been limiting Frontend part timer's hours so we'll never reach the average amount of hours to qualify for healthcare offerings. My CSM said it's to give associates incentive to go full time. Full time doesn't work for my life when I have another part time job.

    Advice to Management

Please go back to letting the (if not everyone, then how about the ones with the most seniority? You know, the reliable ones who never call out! ) associates work enough hours to get health insurance.

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some co-workers and supervisors are nice, they have a union, sometimes coffee or pizza downstairs

    Cons

The managers slack on their part (disorganized) and are not understanding at all, they were always under-employed and did nothing about it, they also have you doing things completely out of your department due to this or staying every single day.

    Advice to Management

You need to hire more people, and train them well at that. Don't micromanage your employees either. Also, if there are multiple complaints about something or your employee is talking to you, you need to listen and do something about it, or else everyone is going to keep quitting.

    vacations after one year
    personal time paid for

    Cons

the employer keeps cutting hours for people
also the same company also cut back on help, so people have to work harder with less.

    Advice to Management

    stop cutting hours for people
remember part timers do the majority of the work
    don't transfer good help
get rid of the bad help

I worked at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You can usually get away with being a drunk stoner with no work ethic. The union will protect even the most blatant of sexual harassers.

    Cons

If you're actually a hardworking person, it's difficult to ever be recognized. You'll just end up picking up everyone else's slack. Rumors are like wildfire and everyone is trapped in a high school mentality. You can make $5 an hour more basically anywhere else. Go to Roche or Trader Joe's.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice, because aside from a few hard workers, a good portion of management is bottom scrapping, entitled morons. Instead of forcing me to work through my lunch to make up for how behind I am after listening to you complain about how little YOU make, maybe take some management classes. Oh, and if someone is being threatened by a coworker and the coworker admits to it, asking them to "hug it out" is a worthless idea. I'm looking at you, McGrath Highway Somerville store.

I have been working at Stop & Shop part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Vacation, sick leave, and personal days that start after a year. There is a Union to protect certain worker rights such as not getting fired without valid cause (such as stealing). For RI, the Union also keeps 1.5x pay on Sundays (the company has been trying to get rid of). Have opportunities to move up if you're in business and don't mind traveling to different stores. There are some good managers that care about their employees and try to protect them from the occasional abusive customer.

    Cons

This is specifically for the one store I've worked in. The pay is not really worth the amount of work you do and what you have to deal with, especially if you have been with the company for a long time. The biggest con is that many managers care more about themselves than what is good for employees. I have been blatantly lied to and have seen people bullied by certain managers. Very little is done when there is a problem with a manager. Problems with understaffing.

    Advice to Management

Listen to you're employee comments and complaints, even when they given during daily interactions. Provide more worker hours for busy stores. Allow more workers to come in if there is a sick call, rather than stating how the store is "over hours"

    Pros

Get paid more an hour to work Sundays and after a year you get time and a half. Paid holidays and after a year you also get paid time and a half if you work the holiday.

    Cons

Non at this moment. I'm sure that will change.
