Incredible people, misdirected and overstretched
Jan 10, 2015 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Salaries are great, the office is nice, food and snacks are plentiful and pretty good. Yearly bonuses are generous, and I feel overall work/life balance for the average worker is pretty good, especially compared to other studios. All artists get Cintiqs. Hardware is decent, good infrastructure. A lot of dogs in the office (might be a con to some people).
Cons
Managers are overstretched and often absent. This results in a lot of miscommunication, wasted work, and neglect of their reports. There are no yearly raises, and in general raises and promotions are hard to come by. The projects are reskins or re-hashes of existing games. There is an insane fear of innovation, which is a shame because they have a wonder team that could make amazing games if given the chance. Hackathons are awe-inspiring, but the games made there end up tucked away never to be seen again.

Good hours, great people, fun environment, great work/life balance, great benefits, lots of growth opportunities, very transparent about current status of company.
Cons
None that I can tell thus far - I am greatly enjoying my employment with Storm8.
Welcome to the team!

Interesting Experience, Glad I Left
Oct 28, 2016 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Smart, hard-working people in many roles - Free breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks - Opportunity to reach a large audience with games (6 to 7 digit daily active users) - Opportunity for learning and career development, if you find yourself on the right team
Cons
- Lacking product vision, particularly in the last year. Many teams treading water, no path forward. - Cognitive dissonance, lack of honesty about product. Management talks as if games are innovative and fun, but it is evident to everyone that the company is risk-averse and relies heavily on fast-follow techniques, market research, and A/B testing to ensure return on investment. - Strange faux-family environment, infantilizing tone towards employees - emphasis on calling everyone 'stormies' and providing free cookies as rewards would be creepy in a company with 20 adult employees, let alone 200+. - Mentioned ad nauseum above, but very little concept of work/life balance - Honest feedback and direct conversation have become increasingly taboo, resulting in heavily political environment.

People Team
We are proud of the network and team we've built through the years. Glad you enjoyed the benefits and learning opportunities that we strive to provide to all employees. While the company has grown to 200+ employees, we aim to maintain the closely-knit, friendly and open culture we've had since the beginning, and a culture that many embrace and enjoy. Being a "Stormie" is part of our culture and no different from how Google calls employees Googlers, or Zynga -- Zyngites, or Facebook -- Facebookers. It's not meant to undermine anyone's maturity but rather something fun and unique to call our team. It's a challenging time for mobile games and the tech industry in general, but we are focused on continuing to hone our craft and building games that mean something to our team and our players. Appreciate your hard work in your time at Storm8.

Great perks, weak development strategy
Sep 1, 2014 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The work life balance is really great. Flex hours are truly flexible, and there is rarely any crunch. Lots of perks, like meals and events. Lots of talented people on staff.
Cons
Product Managers and Executives have little to no game experience, so the company's primary strategy is to company games that have already proven successful. No drive towards innovation.

Pros
- The people you work with day-to-day are great - They provide a solid benefits package (including lunch/dinner) - Work/life balance is generally fair to good
Cons
- Management has no idea how to turn things around and is extremely risk averse - Any non-live ops resources are put towards "safe bet" new games with no chance of being a breakout hit - Zero good design/product leadership for more than a year and a toxic management environment mean the company can't attract anyone who can help get things moving in the right direction
