I worked at Storr Office Environments full-time

    Pros

    Good benefits, fun company outings

    Cons

Little to no training! They throw you on several projects at one time with no supervision or feedback. Very catty, clicke-ish, and little to no managers in place. Nothing is set in stone. The method of running their business changed almost monthly. If you don't keep up, they will squeeze you out!

    Advice to Management

Assign a supervisor to all departments. This is necessary for quality improvement and employee satisfaction.

    Pros

The company is focused in helping grow their vertical markets, and very encouraging when it comes to making goals. They do reward you with many things, most companies overlook. They represent a great manufacturer.

    Cons

The culture is a very "clickish" group of people and will make you feel very uncomfortable if you don't "fit in" their group, this is result in some of the younger employees.
Management is great, but they seem a bit disorganized at times.

    Advice to Management

Really examine the people you hire, and not to allow drama at work. Too much of that occurs and I am a firm believer that there is a time and place for everything, and personal should not come to work. Work relationships should be just that, and if there are personal relationships, they should be outside of work environments.

    Pros

Steelcase dealer, so it sells highly-respected products. Management always has best interest of the company in mind; they are not selfishly trying to suck the company dry. Strong values, and they do try to do the right thing.

    Cons

Senior management has a horrible tin-ear when it comes to motivating and inspiring its workforce. I have heard it said by senior management more than once, "if they don't like it here, they should just get a job elsewhere." They do try to do right by employees through employee appreciation week and fun committees, but they are mostly childish activities. They display a large chip on their shoulder when they are being generous, as if it is a huge burden, and we are ingrates. They think of employees as children. People of color will not be found in leadership, and the token female position is constantly changing. There are no opportunities for advancement. Pay is mediocre.

    Advice to Management

They need to get people in senior management that think a little differently from them. The most effective senior management I've seen has polar opposites at the top, so that group-think does not set in.

"No leadership on the front line...Death by Meetings."

    Pros

Flexible, provide employees with autonomy. Definitely an 8 to 5 culture if that's what you're looking for. Represent reputable product lines that are widely recognized. Employee appreciation events constantly being held. Warehouse and delivery staff on point and reliable. Awesome work environment (you're sitting in the best task chair on the market) which is also a showroom.

    Cons

Leadership is extremely closed off from staff and are constantly in meetings, but rarely found on the front line where all the work is getting done. Support staff is extremely unhappy, overworked, and underpaid. Talented employees will likely leave to get paid what they're worth once the effects of the fancy office and $1000 ergonomic task chair ware off.

    Advice to Management

Be authentic with your employees...loose the fake smiles and actually get concerned about what's going on in the workplace. Lead your organization and stop yielding to corporate at every turn of the road. You've got really talented and loyal people...invest in them. If you hired a proven sales manager/director and invest in a CRM tool you'll drive more income and afford to pay support staff closer to what they're worth. You sell world class product, but you're far from being a world class dealer.
