I worked at Stroock full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A lot of great people worked there. They did a great job of hiring

Constant fear of being downsized or right sized depending on perspective. Tough environment to work in for that reason.

    I worked at Stroock

    Pros

Interesting, captivating, intellectually challenging work. Great group of associates, counsel and many of the partners are truly fabulous.

    Cons

Billed approx. 2300 hours the year before and got no-bonused; likely because i gave an honest upward review of management. Terrible culture; no respect for attorneys below management level

    Advice to Management

Practice group management (financial services) leaves much to be desired.

    "Fear of Unemployment"

Current Employee - Legal Secretary in New York, NY

I have been working at Stroock full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

They are close to where I live.

    Cons

The firm is not doing well. It's super slow. They have on and off layoffs so they don't have to report them and there are talks of bankruptcy.

    I worked at Stroock

    Pros

A lot of responsibility given but no supervision. Not a lot of pros. In fact this review is from earlier than 2012 but I have heard there is some improvement in culture and treatment in LA office.

    Cons

Partners treat associates dreadfully. They treat other partners horribly. I was there when the bankruptcy department blew itself up. There was no respect and a lot of screaming in LA office. NYC office a totally different and better experience

    Advice to Management

Take responsibility for errors and a little more (a lot!) more appreciation of your people.

I worked at Stroock full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Family-oriented environment. Opportunity to expand horizontally. Great place to start and learn the basics.

    Cons

Not much room for vertical growth but right for someone looking for stability and long term employment.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I have been working at Stroock full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Most of the people are great to work with, and work for, most of the time. As with any firm with many personalities, not everybody will be your cup of tea, and you may not be everybody's cup of tea. But, if your work ethic is strong, and you are a very capable lawyer, there is no better group of people to work with.

    Cons

Law is a business. Sometimes, when business is bad, or partners need to make more money, people get fired. It is the nature of the profession. Years ago, attorneys worked for eight years, made partner, or left the firm. These days, people stick around a lot longer but there is not enough work to keep everybody busy all the time.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work.
