I have been working at Structural full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company culture is strong and true, to demand quality and safety. Day to day tasks vary a lot which keeps it interesting. There are tons of opportunities to learn and develop within the company, and it is possible to carve out your own path withing the company as well. It is a great opportunity for someone within a few years out of college to grow their career in the PE program. You do play a major role in projects at a young age, getting thrown into the water and learning to sink or swim which is the best way to learn, but can be stressful. The CEO is a really interesting guy and down to earth guy who revolutionized the concrete repair industry and built an empire out of the back of a truck within his lifetime.

    Cons

This is true for all construction management positions - the work life balance can be lacking. The work slows down in the winter but during the summer it is a lot of long hours and some Saturdays (unpaid for white collar workers).

Some people are quick to take credit for team successes for themselves and also quick to point fingers when something goes wrong.

    Advice to Management

The upper managers spend a lot of time drumming up new business and could spend more time streamlining the jobs and systems we have in place. This is understandable given the growth pressure placed on our branch.

I have been working at Structural full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Brought safety to me. Was a safe work atmosphere.

    Cons

Detroit branch is no longer safe. I've witnessed superintendents assault workers and force worker's to say they hurt it stretch n flexing. Use to have 0 osha incidents now have 3 a year. Need to examine how the bonus program for pm's and Forman coincide with our osha incidents rising

    Advice to Management

Practice 24\7. Leaders need to be more aware of unsafe superintendents that are untouchable.

I have been working at Structural full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

STRUCTURAL is proud of a company culture that promotes 24/7 safety and quality. They offer competitive compensation and benefits including medical and dental insurance, 401(k), paid holidays & vacation, tuition reimbursement, career development and growth opportunities, and a caring work environment.

    Cons

Employees recruited from college that complete the, "Project Engineer Program," are offered opportunities that other employees are not. The company is very slow to promote. Structural plays games with the bonuses promised and bend the rules when convenient.

    Advice to Management

Improve the employee review process! The current process is designed to support only one segment of the workforce. The scores reflect negatively on employees who do not work in the field and do not have the opportunity to demonstrate certain skill sets.

    Pros

Great team to work with, lots of field experience and engineering solutions on the fly

    Cons

There are few core design opportunities, so if you want pure design this is not the company for you.

I worked at Structural full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and bonus. Industry reputed company with solid financials.

    Cons

Poor health benefits. Work culture is grueling. Efforts, successes and hard work are under-appreciated. Even small mistakes are amplified and often criticized, Management are not realistic and more concerned about increasing profits than caring about employee welfare.

I have been working at Structural full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good field operation and safety culture

    Cons

No direction with regard to where the company is going. Do they want to be a GC or focus on what they know repair work. Company expanded very fast in many directions, they need to refocus on business units that are profitable

    Pros

    Great pay for an Intern
Tons of different jobs throughout NY Metro Area
Used lots of new cutting edge technologies

    Cons

Lack of relationship/communication between the Managers and foreman (ones I worked with atleast)
Sometimes got into jobs without knowing full scope of work

    Advice to Management

Stick to what you know which is the concrete industry because you do great work. It seemed like the company was going in a GC direction and if thats where they want to be then they need to work on that.
