I have been working at Stryker full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Hard working professionals that win the right way. This is the best company in medical technology. It is a engaging, inclusive, and fast paced environment. The products truly make a difference to patients and their value propositions are relevant to healthcare providers. I do believe the best is still yet to come.

    Cons

Pay is fair and equitable but the benefits are only average. Also the regulatory and compliance groups have gained perhaps too much power. The controls are necessary today but we have hired so many people in these positions that they at time look for problems that may not exist or violate our core values. I would rather lean towards too conservative vs. too loose but people should know that these groups are stronger at Stryker than at other organizations and at times this can be unnecessarily disruptive to business.

    Advice to Management

Offer a better stock purchase plan for all employees. Specifically offer a greater discount off of fair market value price. This will build a greater ownership culture from all levels of the organization.

I have been working at Stryker full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-There are a lot of really amazing people at Stryker. Friendly, driven, personable, engaged, and self-sacrificing. Compared to other Med-device companies I've worked at, there is a much higher percentage of real gems of humans here.

-Decently flexible environment, they seem to be trying really hard to catch up to some of the culture and perks of other SiValley companies.

-Great place for young people just starting their careers, they promote quickly and give lots of responsibility early on.

    Cons

-Lacks real innovation, in both mindset and execution. Which is annoying because they constantly talk about how innovative and industry leading they are....

-Lacks diversity in thought, personality, and yes, even racially/ethnically speaking. There is a very narrow type of "Stryker Person."

-Very sales-focused company, which is great if you are in sales, not a great place to shine as an engineer. Hence the lack of innovation. Very few actually technically competent, strong engineers here. They all leave for real engineering companies.

-Lots of "cool-aid" drinking. Stryker has done an excellent job of crafting a culture where a lot of people walk around with rose-colored glasses repeating propaganda about how Stryker is the best place in the world (see other reviews), and anyone who thinks a little differently or speaks up is sidelined. Bravo.

-Compensation is not even close to on-par with the rest of SiValley.

-A lot of poorly managed projects, leading to very boom and bust sort of workload. Planning is not a Stryker strength.

    Pros

    Very collaborative work environment.
    Feels like family.
    Everyone is accepting of everyone.

    Cons

If you are not a competitive or energetic individual, this place isn't for you

I have been working at Stryker full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Cross-functional teams working together for a common goal. Everybody helps each other within the department and outside as well. Workload is high, so are the responsibilities but everybody walks around with a smile. Overall, loving the experience.

    Cons

None that I have found so far. It's a big company so it may be difficult sometimes to understand the complete scope of the project and feel overwhelmed. It's all about open discussion and there are people to hear and consider what you are saying.

I have been working at Stryker full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Culture, Driven, Fast-paced, Leadership opportunities

    Cons

For the amount of work that goes into medical devices, the pay should be more competitive to other local biotech companies.

    Advice to Management

Provide more awareness to your employees of cross-department employment opportunities.

    - Focus on employee engagement
    - Type A people
    - Good balance between work/life
    - Tuition assistance

    Cons

    - Not state of the art engineering
    - Hiring process results in employees with all of the same behavior, not much diversity

    Advice to Management

    - Continue focus on employee engagement
    - Work with HR to consider people that are good engineers, but may not fit the Gallup profile

I worked at Stryker full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great mission and values. Great CEO. Great products. You draw satisfaction from the fact that you are working on medical devices. People are generally very nice.

    Cons

Compensation, perks, benefits are abysmal. The company claims to value and recruit the most talented people, and this is far from the truth. The majority of people hold degrees from un-recognized schools and their work reflects that education.

    Advice to Management

If you want to recruit top talent, pay appropriately and recruit exclusively from top schools.

I worked at Stryker full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really positive place to work. Great work culture. Great team atmosphere with smart, hard-working people. Awesome 401K matching plan - the best I've seen! Also amazing maternity leave and general benefits packages.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic system. Takes a long time to make decisions and move forward on ideas. Felt like I had to walk on egg shells around my upper management because it was so hierarchically sensitive. Can be very passive aggressive.
