Contract Lesson Writer
Jun 18, 2017 - Conltract Lesson Writer in Grand Junction, CORecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I've genuinely enjoyed writing for Study. I am able to write from home rather teach as an adjunct on nights and weekends. I have always had plenty of available work and the edit process is generally smooth. Most revision/edit requests are relatively minor, but the feedback is thoughtful and constructive. For my role, the pay is good and payments are always timely and accurate. With the rare exception, the editors are great people to work with and they are easy to communicate with if any hurdles come up.
Cons
Not many at all. Owing partly to the fact that contractor lessons are reviewed by many different individuals, at times there is a fair amount of subjectivity in the editorial and scoring process. However, some degree of subjectivity is normal for any editorial process. At the level of writing I do, I do not find this subjectivity to be any worse than the editorial process compared to other writing types of this nature.

Experienced writers stay away! Contract employees and their contributions are not valued.
Feb 19, 2021 - Subject Matter ExpertRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good volume of work. Decent pay opportunity. Excellent web interface for work management and content writing. Flexible timings.
Cons
They terminate contract at will. I produced quality Math content for them which had excellent reviews from their reviewing team. But after a year of working for them they suddenly terminated my contract citing self-plagiarism issues in the context section of my work. One writes each answer sincerely, producing quality content which is rated excellent by their review team yet if even two lines are found similar (highly probable because they have ton on similar questions), they will terminate your contract throwing everything out of the window. It's like they are setting you up to fail. Experienced writers stay away from this company, suitable for undergrad students who are looking to earn some money to support themselves.

Pros
Flexible hours and no deadlines (work as much or as little as you want). Always work available on a variety of topics. On-boarding process is clearly explained and self-directed. Completely remote work.
Cons
The only major downside is the low pay rate. Subject matter experts in the humanities make $2.75 per question answered.

Pros
Flexible time and work. It depends on the person working.
Cons
There are times when there are few questions to check out and you have to be fast in checking out the questions.

Pros
Work at home. No fixed hours. Flexibility since you can work as much or as little as you feel like working on any particular day.
Cons
The pay is pure peanuts. They pay you a single dollar for an answer. The answers may take an hour or longer to answer properly which means you take home almost nothing. Calling this a job is extremely generous. This is volunteer work.

Awesome Place To Work & Grow!
Jan 28, 2017 - Product Manager in Mountain View, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I have worked at Study.com for 2 years and I truly feel lucky to have found such a great place to work. Perks aside (fully stocked kitchen, open work stations, company trips to the beach, etc), the best part about working at Study.com is the fact that the company believes in its' employees. Over the last few years, I have been able to gain an incredible amount of knowledge and experience due to the fact that the company recognizes and rewards hard work and passion. I am constantly challenged to think of new areas I want to grow in professionally and then given the opportunity to do so. The people who work here are incredibly friendly and intelligent. The product we have is unique and has the ability to revolutionize the way education is accessed. I am eager to see the growth the company will have in the next few years and I look forward to being a part of it.
Cons
No stock options. Profit sharing only occurs if the company gets bought out. Employees who leave before this occurs do not get any compensation.

Great Environment but Serious Flaw Emerging
Jan 19, 2019 - Anonymous ContractorRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Very supporting online work environment and cooperation among online contractors.
Cons
The company violated their contract with the contractors and are about to do it again for the second time in a row through late payments. No one is in the office to pay contractors on MLK Day.

Study.com Lesson Reviewer
Dec 14, 2016 - Lesson Reviewer in Arlington, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
You get to work from home and as many hours as you want as long as work is there.
Cons
The position is only a contract type of job. So don't look for a long term career for this position.
Continue readingThank you for the review. We understand the frustration with auditors having different criteria. The auditing process is an important part of our QA process and sometimes auditors have different perspectives. We are working hard to help calibrate everyone so that you encounter less of this in the future.

Pros
-Flexible work, so long as you do your job well, they don't care how much/little of it you do or where you do it from. -Great team-members. Everyone is helpful and respectful. -Pay is fair in my opinion for the kind of work they seek from me. -The mission of changing education is something that's close to my heart so I'm glad they're doing something about it.
Cons
Can't really think of any. Maybe more opportunities for advancement within the company for remote contractors but that's about it.
