Decent Job for Supplementing Your Income; No Upward Mobility

    Sep 24, 2016 - Anonymous Contractor

    Pros

    - Nice way to supplement your income. - Flexible hours since you get to work from home on your own schedule. - Variety in what you do since you get to choose which courses you work on to develop text and video lessons. - Interesting to get to collaborate with video editors to create engaging video lessons that use visuals, cartoons paired with your lesson script and your voice.

    Cons

    - No options for going from contract to a more secure position, nor was there a way to move up as a manager or full-time employee - I never spoke to anyone on the phone or saw anyone online since all communication was via email and message boards. Even just a quarterly conference call or something like that would make remote contract employees feel more "in the loop" vs. in a vacuum. - Feedback on lessons was subjective and not always consistent since different people review your lessons each time. More consistency with the standards and with who reviews would really help create clearer expectations across the board. - Would be nice to get paid a bit more.

    HR Manager

Thank you for your feedback on your experience. Many of our contractors agree with you that that flexibility and variety of projects is a big pro for them. With regard to your mention of becoming a full-time employee, we do have several full-time employee positions open. These positions are based in our Mountain View, CA, office and require working in the office on different types of work than you may be doing as a contractor. The projects you are working on will have an immediate impact in helping students improve their education and being part of that is very fulfilling. We're working on the turn-around time wait, so you should hopefully see improvements soon.

    Unprofessional—prepare to be ghosted!

    Feb 4, 2022 - Literature Q&Amp; A Expert

    Pros

Flexibility and the ability to work from home.

    Cons

Very unprofessional and disorganized. After signing a contract, the company ghosted me for two weeks. It took two phone calls, three emails, and an online complaint over the course of a week to finally get a response. No one ever offered an explanation for ignoring me for two weeks. In light of this unprofessionalism, and worried that they might handle payment in a similarly haphazard way, I decided to end my contract.

Great Culture, great benefits, great company!

    Pros

I currently work at Study.com, and I love it. We get great benefits, happy hours sponsored by the company, the Leadership team is always available for chatting, and you feel that you are more than just a number, feeling that is quite common when working on big companies. I would definitely recommend Study.com to friends that are looking for a job if they a looking for a job.

    Cons

The company haven't assimilated the 'work from home' culture yet even though we are still allowed to work from home once a quarter.

    Pros

You get to work from home and as many hours as you want as long as work is there.

    Cons

The position is only a contract type of job. So don't look for a long term career for this position.

    Study.com Response

    HR Manager

Thank you for the review. We understand the frustration with auditors having different criteria. The auditing process is an important part of our QA process and sometimes auditors have different perspectives. We are working hard to help calibrate everyone so that you encounter less of this in the future.
