I worked at Success Academy Charter Schools

      Pros

The department provided endless opportunities to learn, get involved with projects, and for me to voice my opinion or questions about the company, current projects or even potential ways to improve the department as a whole. My supervisor was extremely accessible, and help at least weekly check-in meetings with me, though we sat close to each other and were in communication throughout the day. SA provided professional...

      Cons

With such a large company, there was a disconnect between some of the departments. At the time, there were around 20 schools, and 2 floors of the network office, there was so much going on and could be hard to keep up/grasp all the facets, especially as a short term intern.

      Advice to Management

Collaborate with other department's interns for projects. This was a great way for me to find a social group at the company and to learn more about different departments from peers.

I worked at Success Academy Charter Schools for more than a year

      Pros

Loved the freedom that interns were given with task and projects. Allowed us to have the freedom to make our decisions but also had the guidance from operations manager who oversaw projects.

      Cons

Very dysfunctional organization. Task day to day varied and unpredictable.

      Advice to Management

      More organization

I worked at Success Academy Charter Schools for less than a year

      Pros

The people in the network office were so fun and supportive, and treated the interns extremely well. There were also a ton of interns, so I made a lot of friends quickly. Overall, an amazing internship experience!

      Cons

Can't think of any-- sometimes we were given short notice (a day or two) and told to report to a different location for the day (usually one of the schools) but I found the experience of working in the schools to be worth the inconvenience.

      Advice to Management

Keep consistency between departments-- the workload for the interns in different functional areas of the organization was totally different.

I worked at Success Academy Charter Schools for more than a year

      Pros

I worked closely with the talent team, human resources, and the teacher development team so I was able to see the paths of many teachers (assistant/associate teacher to lead teacher to leadership). I really enjoyed the position. I'm interested in teaching upon college graduation and I felt like this was a great start even though I was not in a classroom all the time. I was given many opportunities to make meetings with...

      Cons

As an intern, some cons: -It was only an internship! I wish it had been a full-time job, honestly! I really loved every minute of it and was sad to leave. As an aspiring teacher, some cons: -Many teachers complained about long hours in the school along with occasional additional hours spent grading. I saw many teachers log hours between 7:00am and 6:00pm. -Higher than average turnover rate Success has a fairly...

      Advice to Management

Be more understanding of the volume of the teachers' responsibilities at work. Not much else!
