I have been working at Success Academy Charter Schools

    Pros

Success Academy provides you the support and tools you need to thrive. There's continual feedback and professional development (ideal for people who want careers not jobs).

    Cons

You will work a lot of hours but the time goes by quickly each day. There is little to no "down time," depending upon your personality that could be a pro or a con.

    Advice to Management

Management has an open door / open communication style that is focused on growing each employee while keeping the scholars as the focal point of every decision.

I worked at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The benefits are really good. The children are delightful and my coworkers were awesome. I honestly had a great time working at SA. I had no real complaints until my boss changed.

    Cons

The hours are really long. SA has these monthly audits to determine how well you and your team are running the school. Its pretty stressful , and your end of year bonus are based off of this.

    Advice to Management

Please hire BOMs that are open minded and are willing to compromise. Our jobs are very stressful, with many fires. Please have the BOM's be flexible and be opened to taking on minor roles even if its beneath them. Please be conscience of a work life balance. There was days when I worked 12 -14 hours and got no thanks for it. There was days when I would go without eating or using the bathroom due to the amount of work...

Thanks for your feedback. We’re so glad to hear you had a great time working at SA and sorry that the change in managers did not work out. We do expect Business Operations Managers (BOMs) to be flexible and have an “all hands on deck” attitude and will look into your concerns. Working ...

I worked at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Competitive salary -Decent benefits package -Some specific training

    Cons

-Inexperienced managers -Exceptionally high turnover and apparent apathy toward the issue -AD's rely too heavily on other BOM's to train new BOM's -AD's quick to give "feedback" based on someone else's perceptions and without situational context

    Advice to Management

-Hire or promote people into management positions who truly understand the difference between managing and leading. -Invest in leadership training for AD's.

I worked at Success Academy Charter Schools for more than a year

    Pros

Some really fantastic people working in the organization, very dedicated, extremely hard working. Coworkers became close friends! As a first job out of college, this job gave me some very valuable experiences. If you work hard and people take notice, there are tons of opportunities to grow with the company. You must be willing to work hard and work quickly, you will be tested outside of your comfort zone and absolutely...

    Cons

The hours are LONG, you work from early to late and are expected to check your emails/work phone at night - this job becomes your life and there really is not a way around it. If you work at a school that has state testing in later grades, the hours are crazier, the stress is higher and the demands get more insane. When I finally chose to the leave the organization where I had worked for several years, I was shamed for...

    Advice to Management

Every school in the network is different, I've had some wonderful experiences and also seen some really awful treatment of children. Your teachers are stressed and your leaders are willing to do whatever it takes to hit certain test scores. Stop pretending that everything you do isn't about test prep because it is. The divide between the network office and the schools will be your downfall, start curating an environment...

    Pros

Reasonable work hours and salary for a charter school.

    Cons

I have been working at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great place to work. Challenging and fun. Scholars are amazing. Faculty and teachers are stressed because of how challenging it is, but all worth it on behalf of the scholars.

    Cons

Micromanagement on minutia from network - sometimes not terribly in touch with schools and people working in them - can be hard to keep up and makes job unnecessarily stressful.

I worked at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent pay. The children are amazing. Enrichging making a change in their lives.

    Cons

Micromanagement to the highest degree, due to a lack of trust of their employees. Zero regards for human capital. You're disposable to them. I found a new job and put in my 2 weeks. The next day they pulled me in the office at the end of the day to tell me that they no longer needed my services and they'll pay me for the next two weeks. No thank you for opening the school or thanks for your hard work this past year....

    Advice to Management

I think it's time for a change in the way you view your employees. Take the opportunity to value them and develop them through positive methods. A person can only take what so much negative feedback, before they feel like they're being pushed out of the organization. Principals have too much power and are often the cancer in the schools, because they're inconsiderate, self centered, and lack understanding.
