I have been working at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The interview for the Associate Teacher position was definitely different from you’re average one-on-one interviews you’d experience elsewhere. With that being said, the group-interview you experience here is awesome. It definitely makes you feel as if you can really be yourself. It’s also a super collaborative environment throughout the interview because you’re discussing SA’s values and the way they run with other candidates. The interview process is a long one with it being around 3-4 hours, but they take care of you with snacks, talking, and having fun as well. The interview is composed of watching a video and having group discussion, interpreting a poem, open discussion in groups regarding behavior management, and then you’re one-on-one interview which lasts only about 10-15 minutes. This is all to get a sense on who you are, your own personal values, and for them to see what you’d be best at regarding the position. Once you’re done with the interview they get back to you relatively quickly. They got back to me very early within the next week with an offer so the process is definitely quick.

    Cons

At this time I don’t have any cons regarding the interview process. The Talent Management team did a great job hosting the interview and answering any questions I had throughout the process.

    Pros

Even though SA has been around for 12 years, it's still a 'young' company. Lots of growth and opportunities within the organization. Really passionate coworkers and new, exciting work.

    Cons

You need to be open minded and driven. I don't think that's a con but it's not everyone.

    Cons

High expectations means it's not for the less motivated. Equal parts corporate and startup-feeling.

I have been working at Success Academy Charter Schools full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

+VERY structured environment for all scholars (students) and staff
    +Clear deliverables and accountability systems
    +High-productivity environment
+Great place for hard-working, dedicated, and ambitious people
    +Great salary and benefits
+clear path to career development and promotion (if you are motivated)

    Cons

I actually love working here, but I will explain some factors to consider. Be ready for long days. Official employment letter says 7am-5pm, but often it is 6:30am - 6:30pm. If you are a self-conscious or overly shy person that does not like critique, this may not be the place for you as constructive feedback is a foundation of the work culture. There's no sugarcoating for scholars or staff. We learn what we're not doing well and fix it rapidly. If you are looking for a work place where you can coast along doing bare minimum, this is NOT the place for you. This place is about give 110% all day everyday.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing! If I could ask for one thing, I would ask more official guideline (docs or videos) and specific protocols for new systems and process changes as it would be particularly useful for mid-year hires who missed summer training.

    Pros

Success Academy is an energizing place to work. It is a fast-paced environment focused on the goal of expanding educational opportunity for New York City kids. I especially appreciate working alongside and learning from people with a wide array of professional experiences.

    Cons

Need to be open to change as the organization is growing rapidly.
