Small school system with large schools. Each school has approx 400-600 students. Lots of curriculum directors and educational assistants available. There are also many special education assistants in each school. At the K-5 level there are education assistants for each grade level. Suffield is well known for it's excellent special education services. All special education services are provided directly in the classroom, so there is little to no pull out programs.
The pay is below average for our ERG. Also, the per pupil spending amount is very very very low. Opportunities to move forward are few and far between. Mainstreaming students is a strength and a negative, as students are placed into classes where they aren't able to keep up. Peers notice, and this affects them socially.
Advice to Management
Very top heavy - in poor economic times, it is time to trim.
The staff is extremely professional and the Suffield families are very involved and supportive.
Low salaries and low per pupil expenditure
