Thought it would get better with new CEO, not yet, still hopeful.

I worked at Suffolk Federal Credit Union full-time

    Pros

Regular hours, time off. Many nice, professional people working there.

    Cons

Unfortunately, I worked directly with a few unprofessional, and sometimes hostile, co-workers that made my time there very unpleasant. Not much room for growth in IT department, and behind some years in technology - if you are used to working in a hi-tech environment.

I worked at Suffolk Federal Credit Union full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people in the branches and the back offices are great! They try very hard to be positive and do their jobs well. They are friendly and genuine in their efforts to please the members. They work hard every day and rise to the continual challenges they face, but the morale has been stripped to the core!

    Cons

The CEO/DICTATOR has single-handedly managed to derail that morale from the start of his appointment. He restructures the entire organization at the drop of a pin with no concern for his employees. He continually posts positions outside of the CU, without allowing any of the devoted, dedicated employees that have helped build the CU the opportunity to advance. He fires people at random, based on personal feelings, rather than genuine reasons. The CAO is a complete joke, who has more issues than you can imagine and thrives on making people's lives miserable by way of nasty e-mails about petty things. She aligns herself with the Dictator and oversees HR, which is also a joke! The bottom line is that no one in upper management is looking out for the employees! Members complain constantly about the lack of staff, but using the word "understaffed" is not allowed, as ordered by the CEO! "Work smarter, not harder" is his response. The response to making sure that the front end staff never has a line of people is to cut lunches for the staff. The morning and afternoon breaks that are afforded the back end staff have not been seen by the front line in more years than I can count. Then management on the floors have to figure out how to cut their lunches without them exceeding 38.5 hours!

    Advice to Management

Practice some of the principles of Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group. "Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of your clients!" and "Train your employees well enough so they can leave....treat them well enough so they don't want to!" The first thing that needs to be done at SFCU is to cut off the head of the fish! The rest of the body is salvageable as long as it is seasoned properly!

    Pros

Great coworkers, the only reason anyone would want to work there is because of the people they get to work with. Employees are nice to each other and genuinely nice people.
    Days off on holidays

    Cons

    CEO is an autocratic dictator.
Annual review are a joke. They are set up to make sure you never get a high/ good review (dont bother asking fr a raise.
CEO is not a leader. He only uses fear and intimidation as motivation. He speaks to people in a demeaning and demoralizing tone. Will fire or demote anyone that will question him.
So much turnover because of CEO.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of CEO
Get a board of directors that wont be "yes men" to CEO
There is no need for a CAO....who sends an all staff email to put a lid on a coffee cup after a spill.
The Tellers, Reps, ABM, BM, Caller Center, and Loan Processor are the people who are the back bone of the company. Treat them better and actually pay them a wage where they can afford to live on LI. Lest they realize how important they are and unionize.
    Get rid of CEO
