I worked at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The resort is big but with a small feel. Great work culture, made a lot of lifelong friends.

    Cons

Seasonal position pay is low, a lot of employees have second or third jobs. The high cost of living locally also contributes to that.

I have been working at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort part-time

    Pros

Sugar Bowl is awesome. People who both work and ski here are really nice people. The mountain is spectacular when there is snow and the terrain is fully open.

    Cons

The only down side this year was limited operations on Judah, Summit...and Palisades staying closed. Most employees work for the season pass, so the limited operations is definitely something to consider before signing on as an employee. There is also a definite culture shift going on that is a bit distressing from what long-time Sugar Bowlers know and love about the place..

    Advice to Management

SUGAR and ROYAL apply to upper management as well. Its part of your brand.

I have been working at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort full-time

    Pros

With the new leadership team, there are no Pros to work here. Even the ski pass isn't worth it.

    Cons

I've worked for many ski resorts and this is by far the worst one. The leadership team hides things from the Board. The Board refuses to accept the fact they made a bad hiring decision when putting in new leadership. The rest of the leadership team lives in fear with the new CEO, members of the management team have been witnessed using drugs, the list goes on and on.

    Advice to Management

The Board needs to talk to employees to get their opinion on what is going on. The resort now has a bad reputation in town only due to how bad the management/leadership team is. Pretty soon many of us feel it will start to trickle down to the customers although many have already expressed this sentiment to employees. Employees are afraid to come forward since everyone that tries to help out the new management team gets let go - it is in such a sad state at this point.

    Pros

The mountain is a great place to ride.

    Cons

There have been some recent hires here in the leadership team that have caused the place to go downhill fast. People are getting let go because they have brought up unsafe working conditions and it needs to stop. There are several employees working on a lawsuit due to this. It is a shame this place was so bad this past season and continues to get worse.

    Advice to Management

Stop firing employees because they are concerned with unsafe working conditions. Please take care of these issues immediately as not to cause harm to others working there.

I worked at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort full-time

    Pros

The management team was great and easy to work with. We were able to present ideas to upper management and have them listen. Work hard play hard attitude.

    Cons

Hard place to advance because of the small team.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what the front line employees have to say. They deal with the guests every day.

I worked at Sugar Bowl Ski Resort (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free ski pass, food and retail discounts, fun work environment., learn how to drive snowmobiles and other snow vehicles, depending on your job, it's good exercise.

    Cons

Hours are very weather dependent. They do not have a big budget for extra equipment (at least in the IT department).

    Advice to Management

The IT infrastructure could be so much better if they would hire another full time IT person. Other than that, it's a great place to work.
