        Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Sumitomo Corporation full-time for more than 2 years

        Pros

Relaxed Environment. Not a lot of pressure to get things done.

        Cons

Extremely low pay, hours are not flexible at all and extremely strict (I got called into a management office for being 10 minutes late one day). Technology stack is extremely old and outdated. Coworkers were not great. I would not recommend at all.

        Advice to Management

Stop acting like this is the 1980s with the strict management style and no flexibility.

        Negative Outlook

I have been working at Sumitomo Corporation full-time for more than 6 years

        Pros

If you're later in your career and not looking for career advancement you can leave early every day because you're so mentally checked out.

        Cons

if you're a woman prepare to be paid 70-80 cents to a man's dollar. tries to hide it by creating programs like "diversity inclusion counsel" in order to not get sued. no leadership. compensation is way below market - even for men. Management will try to lie to your face by delaying women's promotions. The competent people, and young people have been leaving more and more.

        Advice to Management

stop with the rotational staff - if they come to the US they need to assimilate. People in leadership positions need act like leaders.

I have been working at Sumitomo Corporation full-time for more than 2 years

        Pros

Nice benefits if you get hired direct

        Cons

VERY hard to get hired direct now. Contractors have been here 2-3 years with no promise of ever being hired in. You will have to fight tooth and nail for every little raise or title change, they really don't like moving you up.

        Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Sumitomo Corporation full-time for more than 6 years

        Pros

Good access to clients interested in doing business with a large company. Moderate salary ranges.

        Cons

Opportunities for meaningful career growth are minimal. Performance incentives below satisfactory. Management does not facilitate integration of Japanese expat staff. Roles for women are marginal. The company is a practiced exercise in bureaucracy.

        Advice to Management

Treat non-Japanese employees with the same respect and potential that Japanese get. Hold your employees and yourself accountable to the values you promote.
