You're not expected to be the brightest person in the building but if you are good at your job you can be a "performer".
You're not going too far too fast. There are a lot of people there for more than 10 or 15 years. People are coasting and comfortable. Very few people are trying really hard to advance the interests of this particular division in the technical area, and the sales area is where the money appears to be if you are lucky to be in a senior position. There are people in non-management positions that have been there 15 or more years. There is an unspoken "old boys' club", and they aren't retiring any time soon.
Advice to Management
I don't think senior management at this location can do much more to make people feel happy about their job. They do a good job of trying to keep people from being distracted with negative thoughts. There is a lot of dead weight that can be trimmed from the staff. Senior management should start there. The obvious non-performers (Sr. Managers know who they are) are dragging the departments down. A few people in each department are really the core of this division. Please cut the chains already!
