I worked at Sun Life (More than a year)

    Pros

My manager was great and that is about it - oh and location nice too and nothing else but I have space to fill

    Cons

If you don't follow the old ways and try and innovate they don't like it, retaliatory lead who bullied me and who knows if he was punished, work not challenging, antiquated methods and people who won't share knowledge to retain their jobs and leaves you unable to perform yours, create drama so they can blame you for it

    Advice to Management

Fire bullying employees who tell lies about you and embrace being in the 21st century

    Pros

Pretty decent benefits and nice location

    Cons

High turnover in areas such as Investment Operations

    Advice to Management

There has to be a reason certain areas experience high turnover - over 100% every couple of years...look at those in charge!

    Pros

Location - near 128/95 intersection, good for commuters in the suburbs. Cafeteria and gym on campus. Great health and wellness programs. 401K match increases with longevity.

    Cons

US President changes every ~3 years, followed by portions of management team. There is not enough stability to choose a strategy and carry it out, hence it is a very unstable work environment. Every year (for the last 10) everyone expects another round of layoffs. Minimal promotions from within, minimal job growth or job mobility.

I have been working at Sun Life full-time

    Pros

If you have a good manager, you have a shot at being satisfied. Expect to have a manager that isn't really interested in seeing you exceed.

    Cons

Little opportunity to excel. Goals are unattainable or not related to position. Management uninterested in recognizing employees that go above and beyond.

    Advice to Management

Most people don't want to just do the same thing day in, day out. Take advantage of your employees' strengths and challenge them to grow, learn and develop.

I have been working at Sun Life full-time

    Pros

The employees are genuinely nice and friendly. There are pockets of very talented individuals and if you can find the good teams they're worth joining.

    Cons

The entire US company is going thru change yet again. It never ends and the constant restructuring has at this point worn out both the employee morale and wallet.

    Advice to Management

Ditch the fads and magic beans and get back to basics. Let employees do what they do best and stop throwing darts in the dark. It's exhausting and unproductive.
