I have been working at Sun Life full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very friendly culture, most people seem sincere, plenty of vacation, decent cafeteria

    Cons

Limited opportunity for advancement, everyone is overworked, space keeps getting squeezed

    Advice to Management

Reduce workload first, then think about issues like staffing and office space. Many tasks could be consolidated or eliminated with no impact on company.

I worked at Sun Life (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Location - near 128/95 intersection, good for commuters in the suburbs. Cafeteria and gym on campus. Great health and wellness programs. 401K match increases with longevity.

    Cons

US President changes every ~3 years, followed by portions of management team. There is not enough stability to choose a strategy and carry it out, hence it is a very unstable work environment. Every year (for the last 10) everyone expects another round of layoffs. Minimal promotions from within, minimal job growth or job mobility.

I worked at Sun Life full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Sun Life has great people and treats their employees very fairly.

    Cons

Constant change and restructuring was disruptive to business. Very conservative company so it is more difficult to sell in an aggressive market.

I have been working at Sun Life full-time

    Pros

If you have a good manager, you have a shot at being satisfied. Expect to have a manager that isn't really interested in seeing you exceed.

    Cons

Little opportunity to excel. Goals are unattainable or not related to position. Management uninterested in recognizing employees that go above and beyond.

    Advice to Management

Most people don't want to just do the same thing day in, day out. Take advantage of your employees' strengths and challenge them to grow, learn and develop.

I have been working at Sun Life full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are a few genuinely delightful coworkers. They will always greet you with a smile. Hours are flexible with ability to make up lost hours.

    Cons

Management VERY passive aggressive. Assures to face and then back stabs. Emails other management constantly, back and forth, However, never directly addresses the employee.

    Advice to Management

Enough with all the pretense. Your affect seems forced and disingenuous. A party, for what ever reason, literally every other week, is decidedly overboard . Some people actually want to go to work and WORK. In addition, if there is problem with an employee, discuss (in private). If there is a perceived issue, ask questions (that is, if you care. like you purport). It's not always what you think.
