    Pros

    I was very well paid.

    Cons

This division of Oracle was originally a separate company, Hyperion Solutions. It was a terrible place to work. The unspoken motto was "Keep your head down and your nose to the grindstone." Micro-managing at every level. I was a manager and had to run every decision by my department head.

    Advice to Management

Send all levels of management to management training.

I worked at Sun Microsystems full-time

    Pros

I worked for the Micro-electronics division. Pros would be flexible work culture, rooms instead of cubicles, easy going co-workers.

    Cons

Lot of internal politics, in-efficient management, lengthy and often times flawed design cycles, non-convergence productization, low morale amongst engineers, non-competitive salaries.

    Advice to Management

Boost the morale of the engineers by addressing their concerns, offering them competitive salaries.

I worked at Sun Microsystems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and opportunities for career advancement if you are able to navigate the hyper competitive culture.

    Cons

At every level of this company you will find backbiting and gossip. HR representatives are often the worst offenders. The gossip mongers are typically slackers who target the highest producers and try to harass them out of the company.

    Advice to Management

Lots of dead wood in the rank and file, wasting major time on gossip. Lots of political maneuvering in management.

    Pros

    Cons

At the end the established management just circled the wagons and looked out for themselves.

    Advice to Management

Work on recognizing talent. There was a lot there when I left.
