I worked at SunCoke Energy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay, experience, schedule and job enjoyment.

    Cons

Company. They lie and threaten, everyone was afraid to talk to a union. At least once a week we were told where the door was.

I worked at SunCoke Energy (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is good but you have to put in a tremendous amount of hours to get it.

    Cons

Cancerous environment and treated like crap!

    Advice to Management

    Pay people for their work.

I worked at SunCoke Energy as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Vibrant, excellent team work, hands on experience, challenging work. You get to travel to different plants as well. People are helpful in the technology side.

    Cons

Do not appreciate talent. Hard and good working people are just let go. I worked day and night on my projects, started loving the job, was assured of a job at the time when they were offering me the internship position but never got it. I was told that they don't want someone from my background. If that was the case, they shouldn't have hired me in the first place. It is really hard getting a job outside of the company you interned with.

    Advice to Management

Check your recruitment policies. Hard working people are just let go. I did a lot of good work for which I was constantly appreciated but was not retained whatsoever.

I worked at SunCoke Energy full-time

    Pros

Due to the nature of the contracts SunCoke has with its customers, they should generate a profit from operations for the duration of the contracts. Therefore, a candidate for employment should be less concerned about the near term survival of the company.

    Cons

The company had been vibrant to work for because of the terrific growth and the individual freedom granted to achieve the growth. Even before the move to Lisle, IL from Knoxville, TN the new management had been systematically eliminating anyone who had been part of that growth. Under the new management the company became stagnant and oppressive of new ideas or ways to grow. The new management repopulated the ranks with employees without any of the technical or industry specific knowledge required to advance the cokemaking technology and stimulate growth. A candidate for employment should be willing to work in a very top down command and control environment.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect and value their ideas instead of looking for people to blame for the next problem. Give individuals the ability and support to get the job done without fear of reprisal.

I worked at SunCoke Energy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Summer Hours were nice and coffee and tea and the water machine.

    Cons

Forced culture. Rude coworkers. Spread too lead and leaders dont have any idea what is going on so the people really working hard dont get direction or credit for the effort.

    Advice to Management

Loosen up and change you culture to be all inclusive departmentally. Friendly, open and respectable conversations at all levels that are genuine. Communication needs to improve overall. Stronger people are needed in most roles to not cheat the talent that is there of a great working environment.
