I have been working at SunGard Consulting Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - As Consultants, clients rely on us for guidance so its a great opportunity to shine
    - Excellent work life balance.
    - They encourage outside learning and improving your skills to advance your career
    - Good compensation

    Cons

    - Default yearly raises are paltry and way below cost of living increases
    - How much you like working at Sungard will likely depend on the client you work for. Fortunately I am with a progressive client with a fun work environment
    - IT department is lacking, especially for a software consulting company

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! Everything's great except...

Yearly raises and overtime pay, when available, are poor. We know how much you're billing us out for so share the spoils!

    Pros

Great culture of client forward individual contributors.
Great leadership with positive attitude towards work life balance.
Great opportunity to migrate to the kinds of projects you want, when pipeline is full.
    Compensation fair and competitive.

    Cons

Challenges with agnostic perceptions in market due to larger software divisions.
High turnover, when pipeline is weak and projects winding down.
Poor integration of centralizing capabilities and taking to market, despite amazing accomplishments on specific projects.
Consultants not incented to work cross clients or on business development if fully engaged.

    Pros

Great culture. Access to senior leaders easy. Opportunity to work with Tier 1 products

    Cons

Slow growth. Heavy focus on optimizing operational revenue lead to lack of internal investments.

    Advice to Management

Restructure the organization and consolidate the products. At one time had 5 different OMS's

    Pros

Good company for entry level work, College hires get great training to prepare them for the consulting work. Focus on energy and utilities. Salaries are on par with other consulting companies.

    Cons

Growth opportunities are very limited. Especially at higher levels and it is not based on how well you perform, but dependent on the leverage model. Hard to get promoted to Principal or Partner levels. If you are not getting promotion, your annual increases could be 1% or less.

    Advice to Management

Hire more "Hunters" to Sell more... Expand the client base so you can create more leverage and opportunities for current employees. Take care of your people. In consulting business your number one asset are your people.

I worked at SunGard Consulting Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Formal promotion track
    Nice people
    Frequent bonuses

    Cons

They have a hard time attracting and retaining top talent
Teams vary wildly, I got lucky and had a great team but some people didn't
    Turnover is high

    Advice to Management

Spend more time making sure employees are happy. Some people want to be paid more, or have more vacation, or whatever it is they want, and if they can't get it from you, they'll get it from someone else. If you want to attract and retain top talent, you should pay more attention to people's needs before they leave, rather than waiting until they've got something better and then counter-offering. By that point, it's usually too late.

I worked at SunGard Consulting Services full-time

    Pros

Well, they are gone now. The ATS group was a good group, with lots of opportunities.

    Cons

Billability is critical, and they couldn't keep me billable. Eventually, the whole place went under and was purchased by FIS/Capco. Consistently would have my annual comp plans revised to become more and more unobtainable.

    Advice to Management

Put together better compensation plans. Stick to them. It demotivates your eployees.
