I worked at SunGard (Less than a year)

    Pros

They have a well-defined corporate structure. Everyone in my respective office was friendly and willing to give advice or help.

    Cons

I was given little time to ask questions i.e. it was like I was not worth their time if I wanted to learn about the different positions there

    Advice to Management

Provide a list of clerical activities that need accomplishing and list them in order of importance. make a list of people who could use the extra help and why. e.g. end of quarter, large project, personal reasons, etc.

I worked at SunGard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

No accountability. No punishment for making mistakes, not even a slap on the wrist. Stupid management but no micromanagement. Lots of bonus pay, if you don't mind hanging around on stupid troubleshooting calls and build hours of OT.

    Cons

Crappy applications and systems. Incompetent developers and IT support teams.

    Advice to Management

Don't quit your comfy positions, no body will hire your stale no good talents. And keep protecting your do nothing crowd lazy azs buddies too.

I have been working at SunGard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Upper Mgmt has improved, plenty of work

    Cons

Health care costs, low to no annual increases, too high of offshore employee mix, no real career path for QA and Programmers, only concerned about the bottom line, consistently layoff employees year after year just to meet numbers

    Advice to Management

Take care of ALL your hard working employees financially & keep jobs in America!

I worked at SunGard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There was a lot of opportunity to learn and increase my skill. Got 4 certifications while working there and was only there for 2 years. Also, management implemented some of my ideas.

    Cons

I am committed to knowledge management and knowledge sharing. This company is not.

    Advice to Management

Giving lip service to knowledge management and knowledge sharing is not a recipe for success, nor is investing in cool tools and technology. No amount of technology amount of technology can make up for a corporation whose mission, leadership, and culture do not recognize and support knowledge sharing practices and investments in intellectual capital and innovation practices.

I worked at SunGard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people were talented and skilled in their positions and eager to share their expertise and bringing a new employee up to speed. The technology was mostly up to date and properly managed.

    Cons

Upper management was unsure of what direction the company was headed, too many divisions (the result of mergers and acquisitions) made movement in the company difficult.

    Advice to Management

Reorganize the company based on industry sectors, merge and sell-off the unprofitable divisions and concentrate the remaining resources on the profitable areas.

I worked at SunGard as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

You have a ton of free time, and it seems like the management doesn't really care what you do

    Cons

You don't do any substantive work

I worked at SunGard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Money is OK, in this economy. Free coffee and pop. LOL

    Cons

Clueless managment, chaotic environment, too many Severity 1 issues because of incompetent development and engineering people. Trouble written all over the place. Too many brown nosers trying to get ahead, morons really, who think they are far more superior than you are only because they've been here for 2+ year. THis place is bad! it will bring your career to halt. I've seen and heard of too many people come and go in the short time i spend there. Another thing to remember is that they will give you such a pretty picture during interview so ASK questions, clarify and observe what you will be getting yourself into, constant stress and arogant people. If you are ok with that then by all means, its a job, nothing more.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the very few talented few and get rid of your typical brown noser types, especially ones who got nothing better to do than create useless reports for you and "run" idiotic meetings for you.

    Pros

They are OK with work/life balance, but only because senior management isn't engaged in employee's lives enough to comment on it.

    Cons

They'll get micromanagement oriented if they see you coming in late or leaving early, regardless of how valuable you are and how good a job you do. People, particularly management, take extra-long cigarette breaks and call them "meetings." Put on a good, professional game face every day, act like you worship the leadership in the office, and don't try to have fun at what you do - that way, you'll be fine.

    Advice to Management

Get down to earth and real. You make working here a chore and act like it's a privilege, rather than mentoring and supporting your employees and their growth.
