I worked at SunGard (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Generous time off -- everyone in the US begins with 3 weeks (unheard of in most places)
    Salaries were fair
Autonomy -- I was allowed to do my job without much interference
Flexibility -- managers were likely to work with employees and be accommodating in the events of emergencies and family leave

    Cons

Lots of turnover with upper management which lead to too many about-faces on what our goals and missions were. We couldn't make product improvements because new management would come in and want to go in a different direction and would undermine all the progress that had been made. This frustrated developers and others who worked so hard to make the improvements.
We didn't have enough competent people in some positions, such as client relationship. We had so much turnover that when clients needed to know who their Account Manager was, they called the help desk because no one in Account Management had reached out to them. Clients went months, even a year at times, without hearing from their business relations contact.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the good people; employees aren't replaced as easily as you think they are.

    Pros

Flexibility in remote work; Large organization operating both in US and Globally, so there is opportunity to move laterally across business lines.

    Cons

Sales areas continue to grow, but back office teams are kept small - as staff leave/let go/retire, there are minimal replacements hired and so support tends to lag

    Advice to Management

Beef up staffing at all areas

    Pros

Local product team members were great to work with, and in general, I had many meaningful interactions with the off-shore development resources. Some Product owners were extremely knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge to help people succeed.

    Cons

Not much room for growth in the organization for my position. Product and development leads sometimes couldn't get on the same page. Personally, the slow pace of the projects I worked on bored me and moved on to another opportunity outside of the company.

    Advice to Management

Continue to value employees and challenge them with new opportunities.

I worked at SunGard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

My Direct management was very good , only reason I stayed as long as I did. Great for getting your IT feet wet... just dont stay to long or you will never leave

    Cons

Aggressive Sales Team promises the moon when we are unable to give the moon. They are treated as gods and operations is treated as low class citizens. Every-time someone quit or was let go they never hired a replacement causing others to work 2x-3x as hard. The only way to get recognition is if a customer filed out a comment card praising you ... only 1 co-worker of mine ever got a position comment and they got it by ignoring all tickets/phone calls and catering to the needs of one specific client who was on site. It was a big irony having him get awarded for excellent customer service because he was able to anonymous give bad customer service to 99% of other other customers.

    Advice to Management

Hire more technical sales people that know the limitations of what they are selling. You shouldn't let people go and have the rest of the staff suffer.

I worked at SunGard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Location - DT, It's a paycheck

    Cons

IF you are seeking an atmosphere of low morale, low pay increases and horrible upper management, this is the place for you. The management is rude, at times nasty, to the employees and never listens to anything you say. The backstabbing is constant and you will be thrown under the bus at every turn. The software is faulty and project management takes no responsibility. The name FIS is being used because Sungard has such a bad reputation in the industry. They training is minimal and most of the office is from India. Wish I could leave the 3 years working there off of my resume'! Worst place I've ever worked in my life.RUN!!

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the upper management. It's a cancer you can't afford.
