I worked at SunGard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It is interesting work and some of the co-workers were wonderful people.

    Cons

They will fire soon-to-be parents as adoption or birth nears and make up stories about why they were fired. They will not adhere to FMLA requests. They also do not adhere to reasonable accommodation plans and bully vulnerable employees into signing false appraisals and evaluations.

They do not allow the employee to add their own statements to write-ups that might refute what the manager/supervisor is reporting and refuse to check computer logs to verify computer use.

When records are requested after leaving, they conveniently leave out any reference to your disabilities or the fact that you had a reasonable accommodation plan. They falsify records and performance appraisals.

There is also a major issue with discrimination against males at their Chico, CA office. Apparently we aren't allowed to take time off to care for our families, that's what wives are for.

    Advice to Management

Hire supervisors with higher quality morals and ethics. Preferably someone with managerial experience who is actually willing to take the time to train employees. Educate your HR staff about ADA and FMLA.

I worked at SunGard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Location - DT, It's a paycheck

    Cons

IF you are seeking an atmosphere of low morale, low pay increases and horrible upper management, this is the place for you. The management is rude, at times nasty, to the employees and never listens to anything you say. The backstabbing is constant and you will be thrown under the bus at every turn. The software is faulty and project management takes no responsibility. The name FIS is being used because Sungard has such a bad reputation in the industry. They training is minimal and most of the office is from India. Wish I could leave the 3 years working there off of my resume'! Worst place I've ever worked in my life.RUN!!

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the upper management. It's a cancer you can't afford.

    Pros

Idiotic senior management makes you feel superior in every way.

    Cons

Sungard Alternative Investments is run like a closed shop for the friends of the president of the unit (who are mysteriously all of the same religion). The managers seem to do very nicely out of SG but add little to no value the businesses they acquire - anyone else who is doing well out of it is open for the attack to add to the friend retirement fund. My company was a fantastic one to work for before Sg took it over. The president and COO screwed up the valuation by a factor of about 2 and since then they just keep chopping people to make the quarterly figures look better. How the president and COO are holding on to their jobs I do not know, but that is the kind of firm it is - everyone is to blame except the management. If there's a problem blame someone else and fire them. Sungard Alternative Investments is and awful unit of an awful company - if they acquire your company start looking for a new job because if they don't fire you, you are the unlucky one!

    Advice to Management

start respecting the people who made the companies you buy worth buying. Actually talk to the people in those companies and bring them on side, rather than treating them like idiots.

    Pros

Work culture, your colleagues. , not much I can think off.

    Cons

Really need to negotiate on Salary, Have to do technical things what your manager say. Incase if he is right, you are saved. if not then blame is on you. If you do your own stuff, you are screwd big time. Have to attend meetings during your weekly offs. No personal nd professional life balance. Its a curse to be a senior member of the team. No job oppertunities. If try for one, they will always look for escalations you did during your entire SunGard career. Lot of Bogus people coming in and spoiling team effort. A very good company for anyone looking for a long stay, no matter any amount of escalations you do, and you do not have any self respect, managers have no guts to kick you out. (As his performance might go for a toss.) Just say sorry, this will never happen again and you are saved, But you argue and managers will make you life hell. there . there is no scope for work you do. Being an L3 you end up unlocking account for others. My worst expirience in my whole career. process is more important that technical things. If you miss SLA due to process, you are gone.

    Advice to Management

Think about employees, show some transperancy in recruitment process and salary structure

    Pros

I do not have anything positive to say

    Cons

Senior management's handling of their employees is terrible. They expect full loyality from their employees yet in times of recession handle their staff atrociously when they decide to downscale.

    Advice to Management

Change the management in the Oxford, UK office.

    Pros

Managing a team of dedicated professionals who are focussed in delivery. Direct interactions with external clients. Working on Listed derivatives space.

    Cons

Lack of control within India. Control is dictated by segment side persons and they can make arbitrary decisions at times with no reasons for their actions.

    Pros

Well known because SunGard is a Fortune 500 company. Opportunity to interact with people from different cultures which is a plus compared to other software companies.

    Cons

Terrible processes and very bureaucratic. Senior management doesn't clearly communicate strategy. Can be considered a callous employer that does not have employees well being at heart. I've heard about employees who get thrown out for vague reasons.

    Advice to Management

Review processes and ensure that management gives employees some leeway to grow and some autonomy. Many of the management executives, including middle managers micromanage to the extent that strong talent quit or get pushed out.

Always overselling - either in time line and/or in functionality
Bonus always revenue related even you don't have an influence on it - no quality related goals

    Advice to Management

Quality of delivery should be part of any sales deal and project delivery

    I worked at SunGard full-time

    Pros

    Benefits, talented people, devoted customers

    Cons

Management, lack of long-term strategy, too much emphasis on short-term goals to meet monthly numbers, lack of HR support for employees, poor equipment and software tools for employees, no training or opportunity for advancement at all and very low pay

    Advice to Management

Focus on your employees. Give them the tools they need to be successful. Reduce the number of managers and only keep the ones who can really do the job.
