I have been working at SunPower full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good office in Richmond, CA
    Good commute location
    Good amenities in the building
    Flexible work hours
    Good bonus system
    Good lab equipment

    Cons

Absolute anti Bay Area company. The Bay Area promotes creativity and open communication but this company runs like a dying oil company in Houston. Kissing behind and playing favoritism are the only ways to keep your job, which I only focused on for the last two years to keep my job. Its work environment is beyond toxic. So much gossiping and backstabbing. People who are recently promoted are totally incompetent. Some people don't even know how to type. Poor educational background and lack of experience.

    Advice to Management

Just focus on residential and commercial.

I worked at SunPower full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People were friendly and motivated to work. They strive to be the best in their field but sometimes get carried away in the politics.

    Cons

Too many PhD's that had no clue about the real world. Spent too much time in school and forgot how to work or think for themselves. Some don't even know how to use a screw driver. I'd like to slap the faces of their professor for not teaching them about real world scenario.

    Advice to Management

Stop lying to employees about how good your product is because no one cares about efficiency when they are paying 50% higher cost for your products.

    Pros

Love the mission, open seating is nice, and great people - friends for life.

    Cons

Horrible management - there is so much noise in the system that is compounded by management creating more noise (e.g. annual restructurings) and no leadership through bad times. When things get hard, leadership is gone and management is out the door. There's no clear direction or vision (e.g. close a FAB / ModCo, just to re-open it a year or 2 later). Management doesn't know what's needed to execute and spins in circles. Managers / Directors do too much and do not have strategic roles.

Poor IT, poor processes, and no budget makes it hard to succeed in most roles. Management should be willing to sacrifice to make the required investments in the company infrastructure, pipeline of projects and getting teams to be proactive rather than reactive.

    Advice to Management

Dig deep, figure out what you want and execute. Stop wasting senior management's time on doing work rather than being strategic. Take a year's worth of bonuses and make the required investments to minimize manual work and streamline simple processes so that people can work on strategy and execution, rather than chasing dashboards to report metrics that take too long to create because data has to be mined out of the systems rather than readily available.

I worked at SunPower full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice office, many perks but that where it ends.

    Cons

Culture & values; there are none.

SUPER disorganized. NO one knows what there doing. Upper-management not in touch. Willing to allow long time employees abusive language, screaming, tantrums with no recourse. 1 week on the job and this person training me takes off for 3 week vacation. 2nd person supposed to be answering questions and available dials in remotely and never shows up until trainer arrives back from vacation. HR supports behavior because person has been there so long.

    Advice to Management

Your light speed behind, not ahead.
