I have been working at SunPower full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good office in Richmond, CA
    Good commute location
    Good amenities in the building
    Flexible work hours
    Good bonus system
    Good lab equipment

    Cons

Absolute anti Bay Area company. The Bay Area promotes creativity and open communication but this company runs like a dying oil company in Houston. Kissing behind and playing favoritism are the only ways to keep your job, which I only focused on for the last two years to keep my job. Its work environment is beyond toxic. So much gossiping and backstabbing. People who are recently promoted are totally incompetent. Some people don't even know how to type. Poor educational background and lack of experience.

    Advice to Management

Just focus on residential and commercial.

I worked at SunPower (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great differentiating technology. Majority of CFT activity was collaborative and successful. CEO very upfront with company direction and strategy.

    Cons

A specific region of companies driving dirt-cheap low-quality solar, muddying the waters against SPWR.

    Advice to Management

No advice, just a thought: if possible, "made in America" strategy could pay dividends in recent political climate, even with ex-oil big-wig moving into Energy cabinet position

I worked at SunPower full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great at giving back to the community. Offer 3 days a year for volunteering in the community. Nice people. Good benefits.

    Cons

They have been in business a long time but really no clue how to run it. Very disconnected across the board. No loyalty to their hardworking employees. Seem to like keeping employees that don't get along with others, bad peer reviews, or could care less if they are there.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the unknowledgeable overpaid VP's and employees that could care less, start appreciating and following through to keep the employees that make the company money.

I worked at SunPower full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The mission resonates with everyone and the company produces a superior product in a generally commoditized industry. Employees are extremely productive.

    Cons

Management has little visibility into the day to day activities of the front-liners and does not seem to grasp the effort it takes to get things done. Tight margins and high capital expenditures leave limited resources for automation and process improvement leveraging technology.

    Advice to Management

Keep the lights on through the difficult times ahead.

I have been working at SunPower (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Cons

Fundamental processes don't exist and short term results are preferred

    Advice to Management

  10. "Great people, dynamic business"

    Star Star Star Star Star

Former Employee - Product Engineer in Richmond, CA
    Recommends

    Pros

As a member of a large R&D organization, working at SunPower felt very much like being at a traditional research company, similar to the reputation held by Bell Labs in the distant past. People come to work for SunPower from all around the country because they want to make a difference in our energy supply by supplementing or replacing fossil fuels with photovoltaic solar power. This is a unifying, clarifying, and fun mission to participate in.

    Cons

It is hard to think of a con for SunPower. I left in order to obtain a pay increase at a job with higher responsibility.

    Advice to Management

Keep doin' what you're doin'... and diversify the employee stock grants so they can choose, say, ETFs instead of SPWR if that's best for their financial goals.

To not agile enough. Some decisions take to long to move forward
