I worked at SunPower full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Great engagement at the Executive level - approachable and willing to roll their sleeves up and work from what I saw
     - They believe in and live their values every day, especially when it comes to the environment and the health and welfare of their employees.
     - They encouraged a fun, laid back work environment in the Austin location. (This seemed less prevalent at the San Jose office)

    Cons

    - Over-reliance on outsourced I/T support (Developers, QA, and Support) meant high turnover, few SMEs with tenure, and lots of re-work
     - Dysfunctional Executive team. Even though they are engaged and seemed willing to work, they were extremely dysfunctional.

    Advice to Management

Overall, my tenure at SunPower was good and I would recommend them as a place to work. Like any publicly traded company, there are areas of opportunities where they could improve; however, so long as the Executive Team is willing to listen, they will get better over time. Along the way, embrace those that have different ideas on how to move the business forward and you'll get there.

    "Rough period"

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Richmond, CA

I have been working at SunPower full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most people who work at SunPower are smart, genuine, and have their hearts in the right place. There's a sense of pride among those working here. The Richmond office is beautiful and has a relaxed, friendly vibe. The company has a great product and has contributed significantly to the solar field in general.

    Cons

Leadership seems completely disengaged from employee perspectives and satisfaction. Morale has plummeted since the lay-offs and hardly anything is being done to ensure remaining employees are satisfied and will stay. Upper management (and mid-level management) are good ol' boys clubs. Extremely low female:male ratio in sales, products, and EPC. There's not much positive feedback or recognition of hard work - instead, there's a lot of gossip and negative talk about people behind their backs.

    Advice to Management

    1. Most people are not happy at SunPower right now. It doesn't need to cost much to check in with employees and bring some celebration and enjoyment back into the office. It used to be a joy to work for this company, and I think it can be again with the right attention and leadership.
    2. Make more of an effort to find and hire talented women. The old school sexism and boys club mentalities at SunPower are not going to change until there's a critical mass of competent women across departments (especially EPC).
    3. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. There are a lot of meetings and processes, intended to promote efficiency and save money, which instead burden staff and managers and make it hard to do one's job (and to be creative/flexible).

    Pros

Great people, cool projects, important mission

    Cons

Too many management levels, more meetings than needed.

    Advice to Management

Start being more agile, give hard working employees more incentives to keep being high performers.
