I have been working at Suncor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, people. They quit micro managing everyone, that's nice. They really work on getting us off when needed.

    Cons

Management doesnt know if they are coming or going it seems. When big decisions need to be made it takes forever or never.

    Advice to Management

It seems the risk matrix is not geared toward personal safety. Using terms like once in a thousand, 10 thousand, 100000 years when it happened last week.

I worked at Suncor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great people, great benefits...

    Cons

There is a 'if you don't like it, there's the door' mentality and environment. There is a lot of 'corporate' sabotage among the managers and supervisors due to this environment. Everyone is out for themselves which thrives in this environment.

    Advice to Management

Look deep into your upper management and see who has a history of this.. just ask the workers.. they will tell you..

    Pros

"Safety first" is stressed at all levels. Good pay and benefits. If you are in the right department with good leadership, you can expand your knowledge and experience tremendously.

    Cons

Too many managers at US refinery(mainly Canadian), still voice the safety first motto, but push production before all else. Little concern over working people long hours or under adverse conditions. Safety incidents are not reported or falsified to ensure manager bonuses. Starting to fade from the work/life balance, and expectiing folks to work longer hours. Promotion and hiring of unqualified or incompotent leaders, becuase they don't question authority and have low moral value.

I have been working at Suncor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Gaining experience. You can take good lessons of what not to do. There are some good people scattered throughout the facility.

    Cons

There are no training or advancement programs. The influx of multiple managers has everyone job scared and hesitant to make decisions. Hiring and promotions are based on favoritism. There is rampant discrimination at the U.S. refinery.

    Advice to Management

Address the double standard where management or those favored by management are not held to the same level of expectations. Stop sending managers southbound that apply tyrannical methods and try to intimidate subordinates.
