I worked at Suncor full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are some nice people at the company. The firm itself is generous with money and benefits. And this is where the list of positives ends.

    Cons

No one speaks about the issues that everyone experiences. People do not stand up for each other. Those who have ideas and suggestions end up bullied. The management does not give a helping hand to those who need it. My immediate manager constantly fed me with lies about my colleagues, while he fed my colleagues with lies about me. Most people say that it is a poisonous environment, but they do not dare to leave the big pay check behind.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Salaries lightly higher than industry average, but this difference is disappearing fast.

    Cons

Lets face it, living in Fort Mac is the pitts! The only reason I came here is for the money. Now that incentive is being eroded. Allowances cut back and staff being laid off and demoted. The town has also taken a big step backwards after the wildfires. Once you are appointed, Suncor expects you to go the extra mile, but when it comes to saving money, they just care about the numbers and not about the individuals. Zero training allowed over the last few years. Zero career advancement, unless you are one of the 'chosen few'. Ruthless staff cuts while upper management grows. Beware, it is a dog-eat-dog world out here. I would have left long ago if the job market elsewhere was better...

    Advice to Management

Your productivity, safety and other performance indicators will improve if you show some care and appreciation for your staff. They are overworked and worried sick the last few years.

    I worked at Suncor full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, perks....great for shareholders given their dominance in the oilsands.

    Cons

Managers use an authoritarian style; lots of backstabbing and credit stealing for work from bosses; workplace bullying...cannot trust anyone you work with or for. You get an outstanding review one year and the next year your boss is trying to get rid of you.

    Advice to Management

Get out of your offices and spend time with your employees to understand how poorly led your company is.

    Cons

    None that I can remember.
