I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

was a good company to work for

    Cons

Sungard AS is out sourcing jobs to Costa Rica, several hundreds actually
no plan put into action, just "........we are going to do it, we don't know how, time frame could be 6 months, we don't know whom yet, we don't know how yet...."

    Advice to Management

    get your act together upstairs

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Plenty of time to update your resumes. Plenty of horror stories about incompetence in management to share with the employees at your next job.

    Cons

When it comes to high profile mistakes, blame is distributed among everyone in the company even though most are made at the C-Level. Credit, not so much.
Supervisors and above all earn above 100K yet the people who produce the results take home half of that.
Sungard AS has been a huge user of H1B employees, bringing in cheap replacements for the original employees who were the reason why at one point this was the company to be with.

    Advice to Management

Accept responsibility for the mistakes in product choices and pathways you decided on. Reign in your Human Resources teams which are errantly withholding double tobacco premiums from employees' checks and refusing to refund.

I worked at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay was good, and I liked the hours (12 hours days, 3-4 days a week), which gave me weekdays off to do other stuff.

    Cons

I've already mentioned training was haphazard, and that may be a contributing factor the mistake which got me fired. A bigger con is Sungard's propensity for offshoring US day jobs. The division which I was a part of just announced that ALL US jobs in that division will be sent to Puerto Rico in October, which makes it so amusing that they're still advertising my position on Glassdoor (Systems Engineer II, Thornton, CO)

    Advice to Management

Look up the history of Circuit City. Firing the more expensive, more experienced employees did NOT save it.

    Pros

Good Compensation/Benefits. Most managers are very flexible with working from home along with not being too stringent concerning strict daily hours - when you come into the office or leave for the day, as well as how long you take for lunch.
They try to have department activities outside of the office for team building.

    Cons

Not all departments/managers are created equal. Some are overworked & stress levels run very high - other departments have very little to do and appear to have a very stress free atmosphere.

I worked at Sungard Availability Services as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great team. Team was very intelligent and highly technical. Senior engineers are great mentors to junior engineers. It was a great place to work and learn. If you came in as a junior, you would gain experience at an exponential rate and leave almost a senior. Work from home policy was also very beneficial.

    Cons

Company is starting to outsource a lot of work to India. Many US engineers are being replaced, and the trend is only continuing in that direction. Heard of recent layoffs as well.

    Advice to Management

Outsourcing to India is not the solution!

    Pros

Great people to work with in the local groups. The people located in the Texas market are top notch.

    Cons

Too many products to support. Management does not seem to be in sync with business objectives.

    Pros

flexable hours, fair pay, supervisors are pretty good as well.

    Cons

currently getting ready for an ipo or sell off, and the work load is ridiculousness.

    Advice to Management

outsourcing to india and laying off US work force, terrible idea. your going to have a hard time keeping customers happy. i'm already seeing it
