I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Huge flexibility, family and health first mentality, compensation is very competitive, benefits are great, there's huge investment in professional development, learning and growth, lots of promotion from within. THE PEOPLE at Sungard AS are some of the kindest and most earnest I've ever worked with. These are good people doing good work every day. I feel valued and on a clear career path toward executive leadership which is supported by senior management.

    Cons

Revenue is down which challenges the culture at times.

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time

    Pros

    Was good while it lasted.

    Cons

Fired / laid off all the good engineers.
Moved lower tech positions to India and Costa Rica.
Customer confidence is getting worse by the day.
No new customers coming in and old ones leaving monthly.

    Advice to Management

Keep hiring those 3rd party support companies, they're doing a bang up job so far.

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Sungard offers a very good salary based on experience and generous vacation time. The also hire talented hardworking employees. A great place to gain experience for new hires out of college with very little responsibility at home.

    Cons

The company has been steadily laying off employees for many years to meet their projected numbers. This could be yearly or quarterly layoffs. Working long hours including nights, weekends and holidays are common and expected when necessary. Organic growth from sales has not been good for many years. Needs a CEO that can move this company forward by growing sales. The company is owned by a consortium of investors who’s been desperately trying to offload Sungard for years. Sungard is not for someone who is seeking a long career path with one company unless your job is your hobby/family.

    Advice to Management

Need to focus more on sales than layoff's to generate revenue.
Try being a leader and not a follower in the industry.

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Paycheck has never been late.

    Cons

I started typing this back in 2012 when the first massive round of off-shoring began. Sharing it now, in 2018, as I finish packing up my desk.

First they came for the Service Delivery Managers, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Service Delivery Manager.
Then they came for the Service Desk Associates, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Service Desk Associate.
Then they came for the Project Managers, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Project Manager.
Then they came for the Engineers, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not an Engineer.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Because all that was left were Executive Management; dozens of ineffective Castratti, too scared about losing their six-figure salaries to stand up for their teams & say “no” to the leadership team (and I use that term in the loosest possible sense).

    Advice to Management

With all due respect to the VPs getting the monthly promotions about which the company sends out multiple congratulatory emails, you have ruined this company by focusing only on advancing Managers and above while completely ignoring those who perform the actual work which brings in revenue.
