I worked at Sungard Availability Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Ability to work remote
    - Sense of responsibility
    - Co-workers are very knowledgeable and typically very helpful
    - Strong history of company and large customers under support
    - Work with cutting edge technology

    Cons

    - Every department is over-worked and under-staffed
    - Strong emphasis on new products that are far from GA’d but have customers live in production with no true support model
    - Employee grading on revenue generation vs. what they cost the company (this is not a joke), including teams that do not generate revenue
    - Extreme focus on revenue generation and fighting of customer SLA credits shows the amount of cash that is bleeding out

This company has no loyalty to ANYONE except senior executives.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your customers and employees. Everyone is miserable with how middle and upper management has destroyed this company. Sungard AS is absurdly top-heavy due to lower-level RIF’s every few months then the recruitment of another Senior-Level executive. Look at the trend of revenue from 2014 until now; kick out whoever is responsible for that graph and start fresh. Show customers you care instead of banishing them to deal with an Indian support team including SME/CSP. Customers and employees see through the lies and false promises

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Facilities they provide is good.
    - Work Life balance is good, at least in my team I have not seen any issue with it.
    - Pays well.

    Cons

    - I have seen some managers supporting their friends or close employees a lot and they grow a lot faster.
Others keep on doing the hard work and are rewarded as well but to get on next level, it takes time for them.
    - Like every other organisation, here as well, your growth may slow down if you do not have a hand on you from Managers.

    Advice to Management

I know it is not possible but try to keep the business away from politics within team and friendship and be professional.

I worked at Sungard Availability Services full-time

    Pros

    - Benefits & vacation are average
    - Opportunity to work remote
    - wayne office has a cool coffe break/game room (but you'll probably never have to time to use)

    Cons

    - Work-life balance is non-existent
    - Office is dated(Wayne)
    - Pay is low for the work/position

Sungard may not be terrible as a company, it may fully depend on your team and management. Vendor management team has no work life balance at all. You're required to work 10 hour days minimum (which they never mention throughout the interview process). The management is condescending, micro-manages, and uses processes that are highly ineffective for the team. If you find a manager/team that you feel like you may have a good working relationship with, you may enjoy it there. However, be cautious of managers that are self-proclaimed as being flexible and easy-going. I fell for that trap and it was quite the opposite after signing on.
